I must say I dont actually mind hippy strange names at all usually. as Morrocan Roll said, its the boring same old names that Im not as keen on usually.
I really like the name Happy

When I was at school, I got the piss taken out of me for my name because it was unusual, but now Ive heard of loads of little girls called Abbie, and I really like my name. When I was at school, Sharon and Tracey were THE popular names. Would you call your kid that, just to fit in?

I'm exactly the same. And I have no respect for the peple saying they aren't going to name their kid a certain name, even if they like it, as they want to avoid bullying. If you call your kid dogshit, then yes it will be bullied. But say you send your child to a school where the children bully for such stuff then shouldn't you teach your child to defend itself rather than sticking it's tail between the legs.
I mean what will you do if your kid has freckles?
Or pronouncement issues?
Etc.

How young people can like names which were topmodern in our grandparents generation, our parents generation and then again in our own, I will never know.
Only exception is biblical names.

I don't lik names beginning with Ch. For girls or boys.

Example: Chloe, Charlie, Charles, Chantelle, Chanel, Chardonnay, Chris, anything like that.

Also, most things ending with an -is sound, as they would go pretty crap with the fiancee's surname.

I think you're right. My name isn't that exciting. My neices and nephews are doing well though. Joy, Rafael and Stella, I think they're fantastic names.

most of the names in the other names thread

names my children would never have:

girls - avril, charlene (or any other ch names), paige, chelsea, jessica, jasmine, michaela, louise, summer, sienna, lily, cassandra, wendy, bailey, kylie, stella, tamara

boys - jack, harry, joshua, dylan, cameron, connor, luke, liam, brandon, gary, jeff, louis, grant, nicholas, guy, terry

either sex - any double barrelled name (mary lynne, anna maria, joh michael), any names purposely spelt wrong (jessyka, jaymz, kriss), any names that didn't exist before the 1980s (there are probably exceptions, but I can't think of any), any minigoth names (raven, trinity, dracula, crimson), any names with even the slightest hint of chav (all of the above)

I think there's a fine line between unsual/interesting and pretentious.

Names like:

Mercedes, Demi, Destiny, Chantel, Jade, Lacey

Fergus, Bailey, River, Kai, Brad, Wayne, Lee

They all seem quite Chav! I also hate it when people spell names differently or completely make up names.

lol....in the class of 4/5 year olds where im a teaching assistant for work experience theres a couple of those that you mentioned....theres a louise, summer, tamara, jack, cameron and luke. And my ex was called terry....after his dad (who cleared of when he was 6) so he absolutly hates it!

and while im at it.....some semi-famous person named their kid ''moon-unit'' honest to god! poor child
