EXIT Festival - Serbia

http://eng.exitfest.org/

This is my festival of choice this summer. Flying to Budapest on 9th of July then making my way to this with some friends. Lasts from 12th - 15th. Then doing a bit of travelling round that part Europe, finishing up in Rome for a couple of days and flying home from there on the 29th. All booked.

So what are people's thoughts? Any suggestions on places we definitely have to visit between Serbia and Italy?

Anyone got any experience of the general area? What's spending like and can you get by on English is most places?

Oh, and does anyone else have any international festivals planned for the summer? Fuck Glastonbury and T in the Shite, if you're going to a festival, do it properly!

Arrgghgh don't tempt me I so want to go and this year is probably my last chance and I really dont' think i can (Or more I can't persuade anyone I know to come with me).

however BA have cottened on and put all the flights to belgrade up to stupid prices for that weekend and there wern't last time I checked any other direct flights from the UK - so you have to go to croatia - or another reasonably close country and take the bus to Novi Sad - pfft

I am however planning on going to Belgrade for the eurovision song contest next may - my friends will come to that!

I'm flying on the 9th July Manchester to Budapest with Jet2. I think it came to about £90 after tax, which was fair enough I thought.

Where in Serbia is it? Belgrade is fantastic and has quite a large number of English speakers (or at least people who can understand/speak enough English for you to get by). The rest of the country... well, it's hit and miss. Younger people generally have some English.

Đerdapska klisura, aka The Iron Gate park is phenomenal. But I'm not sure if gorges and mountains are on your agenda?

If you get the chance to travel to Bosnia & Herzegovina then DO. Sarajevo is one of my favourite cities in the world, it's so cheap, isn't clogged full of tourists, has fascinating history and the people are phenomenally friendly and it is FUN. Watch out for unexploded minefields though, seriously. No dicking about in derelict buildings etc, but if you went there and stayed in any hotel/hostel they will warn you all about it.

Its in Novi Sad - which is kind of to the north and westish of Belgrade but not super far away - I think but i'm not sure about an hour or so.....

I've heard that Mostar is also worth a visit in B&H.

just this easter me and a few mates hitchhiked from sheffield to belgrade via prague for charity and did a bit of travelling afterwards. Sarajevo is amazing, Mostar is definitely worth seeing and if you have time then you should definitely check out Dubrovnik in Croatia. You can easily get a ferry over to Bari in Italy. Quite a few people who did the hitchike are going to Exit, cheap beer I hear!

Heres a run through of rough costs:

Night Bus from Belgrade to Sarajevo - £10
Evening Train from Sarajevo to Mostar - £4 (So cheap, and the views are mind blowing!)
Night Bus from Mostar to Dubrovnik - £15

Some interesting journeys on those busses, especially the Serbian/Bosnian border! Like a fortress.
