Coming soon to a homepage near you...

As you might remember we asked for comments a bit back on possible changes to the main homepage of TheSite.org. We don't really have the resources to make big changes so we've looked at what we can add that'll help get more content on the page, and get people moving more around TheSite. You can see it in the attachment here.

Just to point out the changes -

We’ve added a highlights box near the top to present new content right where new visitors can see it. These three articles will be randomly drawn from a bank of around 20, allowing lots of new content to be seen by visitors to the homepage.

In the content areas we’ve replaced the static descriptions of each section with RSS feeds of new articles. This not only allows for lots of new and updated content to be seen by visitors but allows our content to speak for us, rather than unchanging text.

Finally a new blog feed has been added. This resolves our problems with the right hand content being too long on TheSite’s homepage and also allows for more new features, events and services to be promoted to visitors of the homepage.

Hope you like it, I think we’ve manage to achieve quite a lot with only a small selection of changes.

Obviously one thing we didn't do was the big coloured highlights at the top of the page, sadly our colour scheme meant that with some colour combinations it looked crap - so we've gone for the smaller changes.

So let me know what ya think, oh and for those that a curious about how we approach these things I've included the project document for the changes. Not very interesting but may give you an insight into how we go about these things

Who needs sleeping pills when you've got Jim's regular posts about the changes to the homepage to send you off to the Land of Nod?

Actually, you might be right. I can just imagine that there's a few 17 year olds thinking about signing up to the boards to ask about rimming who wouldn't have signed up if they still had that unchanged text, but because they've put in RSS feeds of new articles then they won't think twice
