    Strong Smelling Urine....

    Recently when passing water i have noticed that occasionally my urine smells far more than normal, to the point where i can smell it from about a foot away from the toilet. It has taken on a kind of salty smell.

    Not sexually active at present (4 months) , anyone have any ideas?

    Sounds like some kind of urine infection. I've noticed the same thing when my blokes goes, theres a very strong smell afterwards, i'm too embarassed to bring it up though. We use condoms so its def not an STD.

    Does it sting when you pass? Is there a difference in colour? Do you have increased urge/frequency? Sounds as though you have a bacterial infection [UTI].

    Urine is usually sterile and the odour is probably bacteria.

    Get to the Docs, probably get a weeks long course of antibiotics.

    It's called dehydration. If your urine is dark and strong smelling, that is an indication that you need to drink more fluids...

    Generally you are wrong. The urine whether concentrated or not is usually sterile, therefore no odour will be apparent.

    UTI is my bet.

    I find... (without going into too much detail!!) that my wee is a lot more 'healthy-looking' when I drink lots of water. Lots of hot drinks and sugary drinks make your wee darker and smell more.

    UTIs are rare in young men you know.

    I'd say it's something he's eaten, or just concentrated. Concentrated urine will smell more than normal.
