If you've been signing on already and receiving benefits then there shouldn't be a problem. You can always take the P45 with you the next time you sign on.

You send Part 2/3 to the Job Centre. If you haven't been sent a letter telling you when you go into the job centre for an interview (as part of your rapid reclaim) then you're still not 'signed on'. You're making a new claim since they stopped your previous for not going to an appointment. So likely you won't be getting JSA.

Don't care what others think about you not doing the overtime and going in on your days off. I used to do overtime here and there when asked (and during half terms) but after this week of doing some overtime to help with things, I'm not anymore. Some people just take the piss, regardless of them saying positive things and seeming grateful for it.

It's his choice to come in on his days...

Perhaps you could have a sort of funeral for yourself for your friend. Is the not going to the funeral something that upsets you more and makes it harder for you to grieve and move on? I know going to my mums funeral helped me, then it was a case of time.
