  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Spyware and virus protection

There's a constant stream of threads from people who are looking for how to deal with spyware or help with a virus problem so I've set this up to help introduce you to some of the free software available. We can't be sure this will stop the problems or work as well as paid for products (especially the anti-virus stuff) but it's a good place to start. Free anti-virus software - AVG...

  1. To get an iPhone 4s or not? On 3 mobile

Title says it all really. I've had enough of my blackberry and I've been looking at either getting an Android or an iPhone 4s. I'm currently with Orange and have seen a really good offer with 3 mobile. Does anyone have any experience with 3 mobile? Good network? Orange have been spot on tbh and I'm going to see if they can match the deal but I dont think they will.

  4. MapMyRun / iMapMyRun

Hey  Was a toss up between Sport and Net & Tech, but i went for here. Anyone use this website / app? What do you think of it? I've used it for the past week or so, and like it a lot. Although I wish it would list the same runs under the same route, rather than making different ones if that makes sense. Unless I'm doing something wrong?

  5. Wireless network problems

My flatmate's shit computer refuses to connect to our wireless network. I can connect my computer and my phone without any issues, but it doesn't work for him. His computer can connect to the internet at work no problem, and it can see the home network, but when he types the password in, it refuses to connect. He's connecting using a wireless USB adaptor, because the one in his computer is...

  10. CD player

I've recently bought a portable CD player, which with the use of an adapter I have got working. The issue is that it plays only on headphones. It is a Philips, and the number seems to be EXP2546. Is it something that could be played without headphones in any way or will I need to take it back? If so, is there anything else you recommend?

  11. Router problems connecting to PS3 & Xbox 360

Since moving from an Orange LiveBox to a Brightbox, I've been having trouble connecting to the internet from my PS3. It either doesn't connect straight away or it disconnects after around 2hours. I now own an Xbox 360 250GB console as from this afternoon:D and it already has disconnected on me. The router used to be straight under my bedroom and it used to be around 100% signal strength....

What is the best import settings to have on iTunes when importing a cd? As default it's on import: ACC Encoder and settings: iTunes plus (256 kbps). My old mp3 player was at 128 kbps but wasn't an iPod. I've never used iTunes before, but I just got my first iPod after swearing that I would never succumb to Apple, but I wasn't strong enough to resist and now I have to work out how to use it....

  16. Ocs, wci

Hi all. My title may seem weard, this is more a kind of suggestion rather than a question. Office seven and twenty ten, microsoft changed the interface to ribbons, and took all the normal menus away. I am visually impaired, so my screen reading software didn't take too kindly to this new outlook. I wanted the menus back, so I wrote ocs, office classic simulator. Its a portable program that...

  17. Internet speeds

I'm 3km from the exchange and I'm getting 2mb if I'm lucky! I've already changed the filter and I've been speaking to our provider and they have said we should be getting around 4mb but they can't work out why we're not. Any ideas and is that expected speed roughly correct? It's not fibre optic or cable and it's an urban(ish) area.

  18. Question PC won't work after plugging in projector.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff, so please forgive the inevitably "dumbed down" version of events here... I have a PC, the tower of which I recently (apparently also stupidly) connected to a projector in our living room when our DVD player broke. The plan was to watch a DVD, obviously, but what actually took place was more along the lines of a computer funeral. My PC will...

  20. Internet filter

Hi all. Does anyone know of a good affective internet filter solution? I'm basicly after some form of proxy server that can authenticate users before they use a browser. Based on the username, create a profile for an au unit of users. If a page is blocked, allow an overide by an administrator. I have a network of 4-5 machines, and need a server that can do that, it would probably run as a...

The charger I got with my laptop from uni has died and as I've graduated it's no longer under warranty. I can't afford £60 for a new one from the apple shop, but am I setting myself up for extortionate repairs if I go for a cheaper "genuine" one off eBay or a non branded replacement one? I've been trying to locate a good WordPress developer and have found it very confusing. For one thing, I only want to hire a native English speaker (American or British is fine, but it's for a writing site so I can't afford to have grammar or spelling errors. The other problem I have is that I don't know how to check anyone's credentials. Does anyone here have suggestions?

I may be being incredibly stupid, I've never had a Blackberry before but.... What do the numbers next to contacts in the phonebook mean. E.g It says Adam/1, John/3, Doctors/5.
