Forum: Parenting

For the young folks

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Cooooey!

Hi guys, At the request of Evenstar and after a good discussion about it in live chat, we decided to go ahead and set up a forum for parents of TheSite.org :d It was basically agreed that parenting is its own entity, somewhere inbetween health and relationships, but perhaps needing a distinct area. We have userguides for other forums, so if you think there are any issues that need to be...

  7. Absolutely sh*ting myself!

I have got about 14 1/2 weeks left and the closer it is getting the morn I am shitting myself!! I am totally clueless when it comes to babies and starting to have a massive panic about what you do with them lol, this is supposed to be the most natural thing in the world but I don't understand anything!! For example I don't know exactly what i need for the baby past a car seat, somewhere for...

A mother who I follow on Twitter @YoungMummyUK (I thought she was a young mum, but turns out it's just her surname lol) recently told me about this - http://www.imama.tv/ I was looking for resources after a convo with Ella and thought it might be useful for all of you to see. Let me know what you think of it. :) Or maybe you've seen something else that's better?

  9. Free download - not one for the kids

I think Arctic Roll will particularly appreciate this, because he first mentioned the book. Go the Fuck to Sleep - read by Samuel L. Jackson is free on Audible (even for existing users). Win.

  10. Early Morning Starts

Is anyone else suffering with their little darlings wanting to be up with the early birds? So far we have tried, longer day time naps, shorter day time naps, no day time naps, early bedtimes, late bedtimes - all to no avail. Shouty Madam wants to be up at 4am EVERY DAY as soon as she hears the birds outside. Short of waging war on the avian population I am unsure as to what else we can do. ...

  12. Washable/Reusable/"Real" nappies

Does anyone else use them? Madam has jst outgrown her size 1's and I am after suggestions/recommendations for size 2's before I purchase. For her size 1's we used a mixture of terry towelling squares, Mio Bambinos, Motherease wraps and Eccobot bamboo nappies and fleece wraps.

  14. Lies you told your kids

This might seem really childish to some people, but I can't be the only one that's told a porky to a child? most of the time, my brothers know I'm lying because whatever I'm saying is deliberately outrageous, and we have a good giggle about it. But every now and then, a real corker slips through their radar and I'm feeling a bit too mischievous to tell them. We (I say we, I don't know who...

http://him.uk.msn.com/sex-and-dating/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=156391220 I just wondered what people's views on the above were. I am 22 and at the moment really don't want kids and after reading the above, can't see myself changing my mind like everyone tells me I will when I get older!

  16. How many parents are here?

Whatever kind of parents it may be... Since it's a brand new forum I thought it might be a good idea to get some glimpse into how many there are here. I've got a 5 year old step daughter and am pregnant with my first child, a boy due in January :)

  18. Formula!

Seasoned bottle feeders, throw me a bone here! I'm in the process of weaning Superbaby onto formula because I go back to work soon (boo hoo) and am finding the whole process of preparing it a gigantic ballache. I refuse to believe that everyone boils the kettle then waits 30 mins, etc, etc for every feed because you'd end up just not having any life, so help me out. Which shortcuts are safe to...

  19. Early weaning hoo-haa!

Story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-12180052 Is this affecting anyone else? What are your views? Did you wait to wean till 6 months? I say affecting, but really it's too late for me, Superbaby is 6.5 months and and in the process of being weaned already (started weaning at 5-and-a-bit months after doing my own research when HV refused to contemplate any eventuality except exclusive...

  20. Fostering

Does anyone have/know anyone who has experience of foster caring? I've been considering it for about a year now and have tried to research it as fully as possible on the internet, but (and I know this is going to sound silly) all I can find on it is really positive information! There are lots of videos and resources put out there by fostering agencies which give you the general gist and...

  22. Netmums/Mumsnet for a dad

So, Is there anywhere I can go online which is/is like mumsnet or netmums, but where I wouldn't get my head bitten off for being a man? However not just netdads as I think a lot of things I'd have questions about would likely require a womans perspective.

  23. Breastfeeding, an act of paedophilia?

I'd never have thought it but yes.... my wife is a paedophile... Why? because some sick, twisted campaign says so... Taken from a particular website, but this has been spread around the internet quite a bit. It's a particularly interesting read, more for the sheer ignorance and comic value of the article. One of many copies online So yes... my first port of call today is to phone the...

  24. Respite4Riven

Has anybody seen this story? I think it's getting proper coverage tomorrow, my mother told me about it as she's a mumsnetter. Riven is a mumsnetter who has a severely disabled daughter who needs 24 hour care. Riven talked to David Cameron (before he was PM) on a live chat about it, and he ended up going to her house to discuss how the nhs can improve respite services (DC's firstborn having...
