Is it a rich man's world?

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Home, law & money board userguide

Whilst the full guide is written here's a quick overview of this forum. It's for any issue you have around housing or your home (buying, selling, renting or just furnishing); anything about specific legal and consumer issues (can a shop do this, should they have arrested me this way, will I go to court as a witness, can I sue my neighbours for painting their house pink); and finally money (what's...

  2. Paypal problem (on Ebay)

I did try asking for help on E-Bay, but i only had one reply and i'm not sure how helpful it was :chin: I've been with paypal for years and had no problems, untill now. I recently had a new bank card, so i updated my details on paypal. My sellers fees appear to have been taken out OK, but every time i try to pay for something using Paypal it says my card was declined. I have a £650...

  6. Living in London

Didn't really know where to put this so sorry if it's in the wrong place.... I'm going to be living and working in London in the next few months but I have no idea where to live. I'm going to be working in the central city area so I think I've got quite a bit of choice over which area to live in. I'd like to live somewhere fairly lively and young but not somewhere sloane square-ish with a...

  7. Is this illegal?

I trekked all the way down to London from North Wales (over 200 miles) today to collect keys for my flat. The contract asks for rent from the 21st July, I moved in today. However the flat is filthy... And by filthy I mean that it's been torn apart... A radiator is not attached to the wall, but lying in the middle of a room, there is cigarette on the windowcills, wood rot on one of the windows,...

  8. Best way to finance a new car?

Ok.... so I'm looking to get a new car. I have my trusty old peugeot which I plan to use in part exchange- or I could sell her privately for around £900. I want to get a Nissan Figaro and the going rate for the type I want is £5000. So basically I don't know what's the best way to fund it- get a loan, get a car on finance- I don't really car so long as I don't get screwed over on interest...

  11. ISA / Savings Accounts

Well, basically, I have a bit of money stowed away in a very old account. I want to put it into a savings account and add to it each month. I am under the impression that ISAs give the best rate of interest (is this correct?). I basically want to put my money into an account that will give me the best amount of interest and, probably, set up a DD so I can transfer money to it once a month....

  12. Question About Applying For A Free Bus Pass

I used to have one with my bank (HSBC) but I often forgot to make the payments but I'm planning on being more organised this time! Do egg or capital one (I think?!) still do these interest free for a year ones? Which credit cards would people recommend? Thanks very much :thumb:

I'm moving to Austalia for the forseeable future. What do I have to do?! I need to renew my passport anyway, and get in touch with the student loans people, but do I need to tell the tax people or anything? I've never really worked in this country anyway, but I want to cover all my bases. Any ideas?

  17. What Kinda Chair You Got When Your PC?

I've got a normal kinda gas lift office chair (without the arms) but think it's time to replace it as the padding don't seem as supportive as it used to be .. 21. Breakdown Cover...word of warning!

I'm sure I can't be the only person on here to have just went for the cheapest breakdown cover...well I found out the hard way earlier this week that the 30 quid cheapest AA cover is useless, same goes for the cheap cover with the RAC or any of the others. So my beloved Mini overheats badly on the motorway. Call out the AA, engine is pretty much cooked, stinks of oil and it'll be a few days in...

  23. First Car

This might be in the wrong thread but I don't know where to put it. Ok, so I'm starting to learn to drive again because I need a car. Alot of the jobs I'm looking to apply to require you to have a full clean driving licence so I may as well buy a car whilst I'm at it so its easier to visit home, do shopping, etc. I'm not looking for anything special but I really don't know where to start....

  25. The difference between power steering and no power steering

I'm learning to drive atm, I have my car ready and waiting (old peugeot 106) and it doesn't have power steering. Unfortunately, my dad is refusing to let me drive it until I pass so i get no practice. I'm just wondering what the difference is without power steering and I'm a bit worried it will affect my driving, what with being a new driver and learned in a car with power steering to driving one...
