This is the place to talk about any issues around housing or your home (buying, selling, renting, moving in or out); anything about specific legal and consumer issues (can a shop do this, should they have arrested me this way,...
I spent quite a lot of time over the last few months overhauling all the benefits content for the "Money" section of TheSite. It will go live in the next couple of weeks. Edit: it is now live!
I wrote a guide to claiming benefits a few years ago (don't use this now - the system's changed a lot in the past six years!), and have had personal experience too. And in updating all TheSite's content,...
So this weekend was laundry day--well weekend. I had like 5 loads to do it sucked!!!! The only good thing was that my clothes smelled freaking amazing. You know how you get your clothes out of the dryer and you just want to lay in them because they are so warm/hot?? Well, seeing as I'm too cheap to buy detergent most of the time I used these samples from Pure Essentials. I got detergent, fabric...
Bit of an odd one...
I have a garden spiders web outside my bedroom window and I really dont want it there. (As I have major spider issues) Is there any humane way I can get rid of it and the web?
I bought some shoes on ebay. The seller didn't accept paypal so I sent a check. After the auction I sent a message stating to ignore the address on the check and sent her the correct ship to address. She sent to the wrong address and is now asking for more $ to reship. I cannot find the message on my profile on ebay, though I know I sent it. Do I have a right to my purchase without paying...
If you went to a cashpoint, took out £200, a week later it hasn't appeared on your statement. I took out £300 last night and that's came on this morning. I'm aware privately owned cashpoints might take a bit longer because they need ot send a bill off to your bank I'm guessing but the money was withdrawn last thursday.
For obvious reasons I don't want to query the bank :p but I'm not sure how...
Ok, we signed a 18m contract with BT for a phone line but due to us being evicted (we can word it like that as we LEGALLY don't own the house even though we pay the morgage it's in my mother in laws name) we've had to cancel our phone line, they asked if we wanted to transfer it to our new address and i said sure, never got told of a charge for this, got a letter through yesterday saying it's...
My girlfriend is going to the U.S. soon and the hotel she is staying in requires a credit card as the majority of hotels do. She just wants to get one and then cancel it without using it. Will she incur any charge for this at all? Sorry, I'm absolutely useless when it comes to credit cards.
ok sort of a 2 in one thing here.....
once i turn 18, i no longer recieve payments from social services, and have to apply to the DSS for income support, and i should also be getting DLA (i've been told i am elegable)...i'm a full time student who lives on my own, don't have student loan (in second year of college), can i get housing benefit and such as well? and i will have a part time job in...

just saw one on my cat's neck and was told to just get it out with tweezers..i got it out but think i left the head in because the bit i had to pull was obviously the body..now i keep reading web pages using the phrase DO NOT a lot and it's the saliva which is poisonous..now i am worried for my baby
I've had insurance on my loan since I took it out but it completely slipped my mind (which I guess is what the bank anticipates!) that I had it until it was mentioned by someone in the bank today.
I've been off work sick since June (going back in November) and they are sending me a claim for to claim for the backdated money, so I should be looking at about £800 altogether.
Has anyone ever...
I have a paypal sellers account (because I sell things on ebay) The problem is that the money stays in my paypal account and not my bank account. After a sale I check my bank account and the moneys not there. Is there any way I can get the money in my bank account.
Since we moved in theyve been trying to get us to pay the bill for the last people who lived here who buggered off without paying. When we moved in, we spoke to them telling them when we moved in and to send us a bill for that - that wrote back sending a bill for £200 for way before.
We phoned, no, thats not what we owe, can you sort the bill out with what WE owe so we can pay it properly, they...
I sent off a claim to the job centre about claiming income support. They also told me that I needed a medical certificate from my doctor. I told them that this wasn't possible until October 26th. They basically said 'oh well, try and get another appointment'. (this was the earliest possible) They wrote to me this morning telling me that I was only entitled from September 3rd to the...
Hi, I would really appreciate some advice on this.
I have a graduate account with the HSBC. I went temporarily over my overdraft, for a period of a week or so. I am back in credit and have just checked on my internet banking, and they have said they plan on charging me a £100 arrangement fee for this. Is this the kind of fe I can claim back, or am I just stuck with this? I realise it was...
I have a dog (bitch) and it sleeps outside in my back garden.
We live in a terraced house and the house that backs onto our house has a dog which has been climbing over the fence and shagging my dog.
We spoke to the owners several times to ask them to stop their dog and have also asked if the dog has been neutered as we did not want puppies.
Despite the fact they assured...
I’ve just gone to the pub with some mates, I was going to stay at home because I had little money but I decided to drive and come home early, anyway I was rather stupid and parked somewhere I should not and took some of my mate advice they said “it will be fine” “you wont get clamped at this time of night” anyway I returned to my car and I was clamped.
The release fee was £70 possibly the...
I've got about £25 of savings in change in a bottle, i want to put it into my account, but how do i do it? There's alot! I've seen a machine in a bank in a shopping centre that counts up coins, do i have to use one of those?
I stay in London, 4 of us sharing a nice house, but we get inundated with estate agents calling round telling us how we should sell up as the house is worth so much blah blah, but we like where we are staying and would rather get rid of that lot than the house!
Any one got any tips or tactics?
We have thought of putting up this sign but anything else would be great!
I was supposed to have my number from O2 transferred to 3 by the 21st - although my o2 contract was until 24th - rung today to see what the problem is cos it didn't happen and the guy on the phone said there was a technical problem with the transfer - code for someone keyed in the wrong number I think
.. so now it's going to be an extra 2 weeks from the original transfer date - which means I...

I rang Vauxhall as i drive a corsa and they quoted £40 just for the part.

Any advice is welcomed, not told the boyfriend yet, going to get slated for being a shit driver now!!
Ok I'm just posting this to double check my position as a consumer here.
I've got an Xbox 360 game. It's the second copy I've had to buy this year as both copies have developed a crack from inside the disc working its way outwards.
Now from what I've read so far under the Sales of Goods act 1979 and further amendments as I have the receipt and I did not damage the product myself I am...
Has anyone experienced a major move of towns/cities on their own before? Other than going to uni I mean. I'm in a situation now where I'm only at my job until the end of next week, Im looking for another one and things keep springing up in different parts of the country which would be perfect if I lived there. I just constantly feel like Oxford is going to be somewhere that I associate with...
Taken a year out of uni, althought still need to make it 'official' purely cause i'm feeling its the right thing for me at this time.
Looking at my options right now, the one thing that keeps coming up in my head is moving to London for six months in the new year.
Don't want to do anythng too rash so thats why i'm not leaving as we speak, but I am nineteen and feel like at the stage i am at...
Do they deliverately make the forms as difficult as possible to fill in or something? I'ce been considering doing this for a while, but there seems no point even filling them as there's sod all (that I can see) relating to eye sight - it all seems to be about walking and medication.
