So I'm open to all guesses here. I left my phone outside one night. It rained lots and lots. Phone worked for about an hour once I found it and charged it up.

Weird thing though, I charged it on a slow charging car charger and after only 15 minutes it said it was full. After about an hour, in the middle of an uno game, the phone turned off. Well it kind of turned off. Everything shut down but the screan was still blue. You would take the battery out and the blue screan would go away but you put the battery back in and it would turn back on.

So the phone no longer turns on or even charges. So now I am a phone murder. I pronounced it this morning at 7:45am.

But then I was talking to a couple people and they suggested that just the battery was shot. So I thought I would come on here and share my devistating story of loss and tragedy with you guys and ask your opinions. I know batteries are fairly cheap but I don't want to go buy one if its not going to be of any use. So I'd take the majority vote before I did. So, shot battery or dead phone?
Thanks.

I can't be sure, but my *clever * boyfriend left the phone I'd lent him on a bench and drove away.... we were almost home when he realised, and it was tipping it down.

We went back and the phone still works.... you just can't press the 0 button. Or the 1. Or 2... etc etc. Basically the phones alive (for so long admittedly) but it's unusable. SoI'd maybe guess at water being in your phone.

Saying that, my lecturer dropped hers in the sink, left it on the radiator for a while and it was fine.

The best thing I can say is, get a phone shop to look at it. Then, if you want it fixed, they can probably do it. If not, you'll know what needs buying new.

:grump: My old phone went swimming in the toilet, bathtub and puddles at least half a dozen times and nothing ever went wrong! (well the inside was rusting in the end but it still caused no problems :p )

I always hate going into phone stores, the workers are always so weird. Plus once they see it has water damage they won't even attempt to help you. Not even make a suggestion.

I wonder if maybe they would have like a spare battery that I could just stick in my phone for 5 minutes at the store just to see if that worked.

Answer to that - don't tell them it's water damage.

Say you lent the handset to a friend for the night, and when you got it back you realised something was up, or something similar. Ask them if it might be the battery.... they're more likely to test it then :)

Let them decide it's water damage themselves :)

Its still got water all up in the screan (is it screen? I've no idea). Its been sitting by heaters for the last day, but its slowly dissapearing.
Good idea though. I'll wait till its all dried up then bring it in ;)
Thank you.

No problem. Getting what you want out of mobile phone people is my specialty  I demand something, I tend to get it off them :)

You need to let it dry off for a few days before taking it. Water damage is something very easy for them to spot even once it's dry, but while it's wet they'll just tell you to get lost.

Phone is knackered. Worst thing you can do is turn it on and try to use it. Remove the battery and leave it somewhere warm and dry for several days.

Worst thing you can do with wet electronics is turn it on.

I've dunked my phone more times than I can remember and a short spell in the airing/laundry cupboard always sets it reet.

^It is no guarantee though. It is still a very good idea to try and keep your phones dry in the first place ;).

Yep.

Unfortunatley, it's probably buggered now.

I'd try removing battery, unscrewing the phone and leaving all the bits to dry out for a few days. Then try it.

Do not try to charge the battery again until it's dry.

If the phone is fucked though, whats the point of letting it dry out then? A dry broken is of no more use than a wet broken phone. In the garbage it goes, boo :( Oh well.

Have you left it to dry out yet? Do you know that it is garbage?

Yup, its been drying for just about 24 hours now. The boyfriend took it all apart and dried each piece manually, then I held it by the heater in the car, turned on 90F for a good 20 minutes, then put it on top of the vent at home cuz the heat was on, now its been sitting by the heater by my desk for 5ish hours. It did turn on once, cuz I got curious and tried it again today, but died before it even fully turned on.

TBH though, I only paid about 29 pounds for it thru my contract so I guess its hardly the end of the world if it is trash, I just don't like buying new phones, I'm a cheapass :p
Plus I've grown attached to it :(:p
