So when it comes to lifting weights I know theres different ways to do it to get different results. Like whether you want to build bulk or strength or just tone up. Like one is lots of reps at a moderatly heavy weight to you, others is like few reps at a heafvier one, I don't really know.

Now I always do the weight machines at the gym now. I just always do 3 sets of either 10 or 8 at a weight where I can do every rep until the last set, then the last few get tough. It was really the only thing I remembered :p I dont want to get bulky. Thats my main thing.

So now though, I tried looking online but I got nothing as I cannot even figure out what to put in for a search. So I'll ask for help. If anybody knows the proper weights and reps/sets for just to stay toned, or even to help me search for it would be great. Thanks.

I was always told that to get bulky you need to do short sets of reps at a high weight i.e. 5 sets of 4 reps at high weight.
To tone its more reps at medium wieght i.e. 3 sets of 12 reps.

yeah. You should be okay Manda. For bulking, you'd probably be trying to use a high weight for say 3 sets, maybe 15-12-10.

It sounds like you're sticking to a realistic weight for toning. If you're worried just drop the weight more and do more reps instead.

Edited to add that different types of exercise may be better for you than others in terms of toning. Low impact cardio stuff will probably be more effective than weight training.

Thanks :)

I do the cardio first then do like 3-4 different machines on a certian muscle group and stuff. So I guess I guessed pretty right. Thanks you both.

Remember it's alot harder for girls to 'bulk' up than it is for men, due to women having high amounts of estrogen.

Wouldn't worry too much, sounds like you're doing the right thing. Like Nash said it's really hard for women to "bulk" up in the same way as blokes do. I lift 3-4 sets of 15 when doing the weights but when i raise the weight level i drop a set off until my muscles become used to lifting the heavier weight. As long as you're doing cardio first to get your muscles warm and you don't lift anything too heavy that you're in agony then you should be fine. Talking about this has made me realise i really should get my lazy arse back to the gym :chin:
