How much/little do you have to be earning to get working tax credit, and how do you claim it?

Oh I have done a search and you have to be 25, just another example of the ageism of this government.

you can claim orking tax credit from 16, but you do have to be responsible for a child or have a disability. Have you tried claiming housing benefit and council tax benefit? The amount you get will be restricted by your age but some help would be better than none if you're struggling. ALso, there are low/no interest loans that you can get from social security. this (http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/n6m/index/life/benefits/young_people_and_benefits.htm) suggests you could apply for a social fund loan if there's something you need help buying - like a washng machine or something...
