I've dicked about with the settings know end but still can't stop the "chopping off" of the picture at the bottom of the screen. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to stop it?

hmmm why would you want to..if you have a widescreen tv surely you want to see TV/DVD in their true format 16:9...if you get rid of the borders and stretch the picture to 4:3 ratio you will lose part of the picture and may also look weird.

Only TV will be in 16:9 format - most movies are soooooo wide that you still have those silly black borders at the top .. I was a bit shocked when I saw my friend's widescreen years ago and realised that you still have borders

oh yeah of course you will still have some borderish depending on the aspect ratio of the movie, but why stretch a picture to fill a screen when the movie isnt intended to be watched like that.

If it's a film, shot in widescreen, then it's often best viewed in that format, even if it does mean having borders, even if it means having borders on your widescreen telly.
One thing I hate is the picture stretched to fit the screen. It just distorts things, and you don't see them as you're meant to. Especially when it's ordinary TV stretched out. :yuck:
