Good question. Perhaps it's the point where both people feel they've met "the one", at least for the time being ;)

i would say long term is anything above 6 months, when you get to a year i would say thats most def long term. I would just say when you feel you've been with someone quite a long time.

I think 2+ years is probably long-term. I feel like I've been in my current relationship for the long-haul and that's been almost 3 years, although we've had two month-long periods of being "broken up".

Obviously the longer your relationships become, the more your definition of long-term will become. When I'd been with my boyfriend for a year, I started to think six months was fairly good going...and as the amount of time we've been together increases, so does what I think constitutes a long-term relationships. Argh, I'd be amazed if that makes sense to anyone but me, heh.

My parents have been together for 34 years, which is a LONG time, possibly too long so that's a whole 'nother story. My mum, therefore, thinks my relationship with my boyfriend is a drop in the ocean of relationships, since 3 years is nowt to them. It's all relative I suppose, everyone looks at their own experiences and judges from that. It's when long-term becomes more like "life-term" that the problems arise ;)

its in the eye of the beholder, and probably partly to do with what youev had previously.
If youd had a succession of 2 week relationships, then being with someone 6months is likely to feel long term. It also depends on your intentions. If you feel like youre really going to be with this one for a while.
My best friend has been with her bloke, living with him for nearly 2 years, but shes been talking about leaving him for the last 18mths!! I guess its still long term though, but it wouldnt have been if shed felt she had an escape route.
Ive been with my partner 9 years. I was with my ex for 3 years. I would call both of them long term.

i personally think long-term is a state of mind. you either want to be with someone in the future , or you don't.

I think the younger/less experienced you are, the less time is needed for a relationship to become long-term. For instance, I've been with my boyfriend for 7 months, which is a long time for a 15 year-old, considering the amount of cheating that seems to occur in my year group. Plus, my past relationships had never lasted beyond 2 months, and I've never been so close to a person before.

I agree there, my relationship with my boyfriend is nearly 7 months now, and I'm in 14. We're the one of two couples that have been going for that long. So many year 9's are cheating and going off with eachother for flings, and they find it shocking that we are still together for this long! Personally, I find it great! :D

I'd probably say 6 months - a year. But I've never been out with anyone for longer than six weeks so I don't know.

:) yeah older people i know are always shocked by the happenings among teenage peer-groups. i love seeing the look my family gives me when i tell them about the most recent revenge-sex-tale/cheating etc thats happened in my year.

i think that its a long term relationship when both of you are ready to make that comitment, its quite a big step as its also known as going serioous! and this means no foolin wit other ppl! iv been with my boyfriend for 6 months and i think that we are in a lnog term realtionship, as i want to be with him for the rest of my life!
