I Think I recieved my AOL upgrade to 1meg last night, as when I logged on this morning the format had changed slightly, after looking around aol.co.uk I found that I was now on the 1Mbps package that they said they would be upgrading me to.
I was just wondering if there was any way of me testing out the new abilitys of 1meg Broadband?

Do that and it should show your results as being the speed of 1mb or faster if your lucky and have a good connection.
Im on 2mb NTL but I got a line speed of 2.4mb :D

I think I get downloads of 200kb - 230kb/s or something (* 8 = 1.6mb - 1.84mb/s). But that's fast enough for me. It's supposed to be 2mb but you know... I downloaded 300Mbytes of a torrent yesterday in about an hour. Was so cool :D

Torrent some DVD's and Big arse games. Like Act of War.

Torrents are so slow. Get on IRC and find some decent servers, I downloaded a 1.5gb dvd version of Amityville Horror in 90 mins as I was downloading at 240kbps :shocking:

That says I'm running at 512kbs but on Limewire I'm downloading at up to 60kbps as apposed to the max of 25kbps I was getting before.

60kb/s is the average for a 512kbp/s connection.
the average for a 1meg connection is normally 120-125kb/s

If you divide your advertised connection by 8 that should be your real download speed... probably a bit less than that actually but as a rough guide it's not bad.
I went to that link supplied and because im clueless, can someone tell me if this is.. well ok, for a 1mb service ..
Downstream 709 Kbps (88.6 KB/sec) 765 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 121 Kbps (15.1 KB/sec) 130 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Was my results.
And can somebody clarify to me, what exactly it means by " downstream " and " upstream " .. i have a fairly certain idea i just want to be sure.

Downstream = Download Speed
Upstream = Upload Speed
Simple.

Torrents are so slow.
Bollocks.
Torrents easily max out your bandwidth if there are plenty of seeders.

I get about those speeds on my 2MB connection :D.
1gig file downloads in about an hour and a bit if I'm using the full 230k.
Sounds about right, My connection maxes out at 240kb/sec on 2mb

I get 240Kb on a 2MB. I'm not far from the exchange, which helps apparently. :)

What connection speed are you on?
I run the test every week on 1 minute, 5 frames, UK. It keeps a record of each test you do so you can compare.
