A while ago I came off painkillers becuase they were making me constapated (sp) and when I did finally manage to go to the loo it was very painfull but my doctor just put it down to the constapation. Anyway that was over a month ago and the constapation has gone but the pain of passing stools hasn't. Any suggestions? Should I go back to my doctor? I am worried that if I do he will exam my bum and I don't really want that. :nervous: :o

you could always chat with your gp... see if he has got any sugestions without examining you. or try laxatives for the short term.

Are you straining? Taking something like Fybogel may help the transit of the stools.. this product bulks up the stool making it easier to pass..
Eat plenty of fresh fruits and drink plenty of water.. this may help to soften the stools..
But the first point of contact has to be your GP incase there is any other problems.. and I am afraid that an internal may be needed.. but I have to say it is not as uncomfortable as people think.. I had it done and was shitting myself [pun intended] but it is usually only one finger that is well lubricated..
What is one moments discomfort compared to treating this??

A good stool softner would do the trick. Some sort of laxatives. The one I was perscribed after surgery was sodium based I think. Talk to your GP.

Is there any bleeding?
Ages ago now (for one reason and another) I was considerably constipated and caused a slight tear in the ring.
I skiped down to my GP and he gave me a cream which cured it right up.
Its certainly nothing your GP hasnt seen before and he's not going to start jamming his fist up you.
