Not really then, there's no real risk of disease and just a slight potential for nuisance.
I've been to Portugal quite a lot and never been bothered by them.

having said that though, if you do go anywhere abroad where you would need it (anywhere from scandanavia to south america) NEVER buy british ones... wait till you get over there, and buy it then. (british ones never seem to work for some reason :confused: )

Natural insect repellents don't work and there's medical suggestions that DEET repellents can be harmful to your health, in Portugal you really don't need a repellent unless you'll be staying next to a swamp.
