I want to take a photo with my digital camera which shows the background blurry and the object in front as clear. Its not an optical zoom cam, just a digital zoom one. If anyone can give me a hand i'd appreciate it.

cheers.

Then you're going to need to get some control over the camera, as you will need to set a wide aperture. The aperture is a part of the lens that is like an adjustable hole that lets/restricts the amount of light that hits the film (or should I say sensor in this case).
Does it have a manual mode? If so, then see if you can set a wide aperture (lower numbers). If it doesn't allow you to change the apertures, then see if it'll let you set shutter speeds, and choose a fast shutter speed, which will force the camera to open the aperture to let more light in, and you get the effect you're after.
Of course, your camera could be so basic that it doesn't give you any control, or even have an adjustable aperture (relying only on shutter speeds).

Oh, and another thought. If it doesn't have full manual control, then see if it has some sort of "action" or "sports" mode, which will usually try to select a fast shutter speed to catch action, and a corresponding wide open aperture.

I'd have thought that you would achieve this with spot focus on the object in the foreground. The background will then automatically be out of focus. (Whether or not you would class that as "blurry" depends on your opinion.) If you're after motion blur then yes, you need to have pretty much manual control of the camera. (And it's still fairly hard to achieve I would say).

Or you could just Paint Shop Pro or similar.

You could take the pic normally then blur the background out using photoshop;)

on didgital zoom it is harder to make the background blury, we had this problem on some media work so we decided to use optical zoom.. if you can use a optical zoom it is easy, like wobble said just change the appiture
