Anyone else considered doing this?

I've signed up to do it again, this will be my third General Election but I've also done some locals. It's a long day, I have to be a the station by 6.30am and I cannot leave until after 10pm. however, I will get paid £130 for it...

Anyone interested? If so, call your local council and ask to speak to the deputy returning officer's office...

Sounds tedious.

I've been to a count. That was interesting. :thumb:

Can be, depends on where you end up. Some places are busy - not rural ones though *yawns* that was a long day...

I would do that for 130 bucks.

What are they going to do if they haven't got a result by 2am?

Pay overtime? It's normally only the case if there is a recount. Then the council staff who are employed would probably have to manage with fewer helpers.

Away with your modern day Armada. :grump:

I think I should be allowed to vote. :p

On second thoughts I wouldn't want all those Daily Mailers who have settled in Spain to be able to vote in the Spanish General election, so fair is fair :D

I thought EU citizens could vote in each others elections as long as they're resident.

I got a call on Friday to do it as I was on the reserve list and someone dropped out. Like MoK, I'll be there 6:30am-10pm, this will be my first one. I'm getting more money for it though

Local elections but not general elections. One of my housemates is German and she can't vote here despite having lived in the UK for 8 years now.

I haven't done that, but at the last local election I had to stand by the door with big conservative badges all over me, and I don't even support the conservatives. It's a very rural polling station though, and everyone wears tweed jackets and votes conservative anyway. Had I have been wearing a labour badge or anything else, I'd have probably been shot with a rifle.

It's illegal to campaign outside a polling station....

It wasn't really campaigning, it was more welcoming people in. I just had to wear this badge, I don't think people in the country really abide to the law quite so much anyway.
