Britains most senior Police officer, Sir Ian Blair, the Metroplolitan Police Commissioner, is asking the government for tougher new anti-terror laws with a new offence for outlawing "acts preparatory to terrorism."

This new law is outlined in Labour's election manifesto and would target those who help terror gangs by providing support such as safe houses, money, bank accounts, and cars.

Phoney Blair also says he is in favour of introducing ID cards, a central plank of Labour's manifesto.

Lets get those terrorists under lock & key and extract every scrap of information from them, make them wish they'd never been born.
Good on you Phoney, its about time we kicked some ass!!!! :)

I do hope so. It's gonna make getting a new identity a whole lot easier. How many bloody times, criminals do not obey the law. Making new laws does not stop them. It's PR at best and a move to control the population more than likely.

Lets get those terrorists under lock & key and extract every scrap of information from them, make them wish they'd never been born.

And then let them go because there is fuck all evidence to get a conviction, lose millions in settlements etc etc and abandon the laws as unworkable after a few serious miscarriages of justice.

Hell, why not take them overseas, torture them and then bring them back. Ooop been there, done that.

What's the road to hell paved with again?

Yup... first target the Muslims and when they're all locked up we can prey on the darkies and pro-active peace supporters.

I certainly wouldn't target the Moslems, the vast majority of whom are God-fearing law-abiding citizens, in fact we've got to encourage them to actively help detect any terror suspects in their communities. We'll all in this together and waht you are suggesting makes as much sense as targeting all Catholics in an effort to hunt down IRA suspects.

But we did exactly that last time, what makes you think we will be any smarter this time?

Whats the ratio between arrests and convictions under terrorism law?

So the police support ever more authoritarian laws that give them more and more power, and less public accoutability. Quelle surprise. Of course, we can all trust the police not to abuse these powers, never to use them against peaceful demonstrators and never to target people simply because they don't like the look of them.... Can't we?
