Where is the best place to get cheap travel insurance? I am going to portugal for 1 month and need to get it sorted but I don't want to pay any more than I have too.

I got my insurance for a month in Europe from STA Travel. It was the cheapest quote I found and it covers pretty much everything.

I got a year's cover with Sainsburys for about £30 - I removed thing like lost baggage, etc because if you read the small print you need to show receipts for clothes, etc

And now a lot of my best clothes are all hand made and cost peanuts in pound but cost me a fortune in the airfare to fly half way round the world to have them made ... LOL (i.e. got them made on holiday)

My main concern for insurance is the medical cover, i.e. if anything happens - espacially in the USA that you're covered cos hospital bills can run into milions over there.

I had a six month policy from www.statravel.co.uk not so long ago. At the time it was certainly the most reasonable I could find with regards to amount of cover and cost of the policy.

It's tempting to go for some of the cheaper options, but you'll kick yourself if you end up paying a huge excess fee or if your cover doesn't extend far enough in the event of something going horribly wrong.

Post office?

I think it all depends what you'll be doing. You can get like 'normal' travel insurance which covers certain accidents, lost luggage, medical bills etc...or like, if you're up to high rish activities like mountain climbing or extreme sports, then you'd need to take out a different type of insurance - try the post office just because on their website for example, they outline their different insurances and what they cover, it all depends what your holiday is all about. I took my insurance out with Philleas Fogg and they've got quite a good cover plan and sent me all the really detailed info on everything it involves, it's pretty good for bogstandard insurance!
