Hi this is on behalf of my girlfriend.
Well a week after her period finished the doctor put her on a mini pill for some reason and it seems she has come on again only a week after!
She said it dont feel like a period but shes bleeding down there and its getting her worried.
What do you think it is?
Thanks

Just sounds like her cycles been disrupted due to the pill. But don't take our words for it - tell her to go back to the doc.

It sounds like breakthrough spotting but I'm no expert.
Sounds like break-through bleeding/spotting. Which is normal when you've just started taking it - it should say something about what to expect when you've started taking it and about bleeding while on it in the little leaflet that comes with the packet, tell her to have a read of it and it should clear up her confusion/worries. :)

Thanks im gonna read the leaflet for her (i understand big words a little more than her bless her lol).
So what exactly is this spotting? Is it like just casual bleeding when starting a new pill?
Oh yeh and its like pure red blood, its not brown/red like period blood. Shes had an inspection and not cut herself anywhere.
When you start taking the pill your body takes a while to get used to the diffrent levels of hormones etc...
I can't really explain it very well and don't trust exactly what I say cos I'm not an expert, but it's when hormone levels are unstable and when it settles down the spotting should stop. It should say in the leaflet how long to expect it for, if it carries on after a certain amount of time it may be that she needs to try a diffrent pill or come off it.
Hope that helps

Perfectly normal, i had the same thing the first time i was put on a pill, if shes worried or it lasts a long time tell her to see her doctor, she may need to change her pill.

Ment to say before - the type of blood will look diffrent because when you're on the pill it affects the lining of the womb (I think) so it isn't the same and should be less heavy etc...

I found that too on the mini pill, it drove me crazy so as soon as my doctor said I could take the combined pill I changed!

what reason did she give for him to put her on the mini pill?

He put her on there because shes trialing the pill version of the injection as she wants the injection.
I am being patient with her, if anything she is the impatient one bless her.
Shes getting a little down because shes had irregular periods all her life and now its really pissing her off, she cant seem to get the right pill!

that can be one side effect of the mini pill an the injection.
maybe she would be better off with something that makes her more regular like the ordinary pill or the patch if it upsets her?

She cant go on the regular pill because she is allergic to some ingredients, so the doctor has been experimenting with lots of pills for her.
Since iv known her shes tried loads of pills that have made her:
Irregular
Sick
Depressed
Bloodier than usual
And stuff like that. This mini pill she is on is the pill form of the injection but its not looking good so shes not having it. Were both getting tests done at a GUM clinic soon so shes gonna speak to a nurse there about other forms of contraceptive.
I suggested she stopped taking the pill but she insists on keeping it for safetty reasons.

ive never got on with hormonal contraception. i have a non -hormonal coil now as it was a choice between that and the cap(diaphram) but i know they generally aren't keen to give the coil to anyone who hasnt been pregnant. as you are prepared to use condoms anyway maybe she could use a cap instead of hormones? that way you are still doubly protected.

I dont mind wearing condoms, it saves a lot of mess. This is for her sake really. She hasnt bled today so hopefully its a good sign.
