Hi
I am on a NHS dentist - I had an appointmet with the hospital to have my wisdom tooth out (took almost 5 months) I missed the appointment and now they're saying I will have to go through the procress of being referred again to get back on the list (why cant they just put me on the waiting list again if they know I need it?)

Anyhow, my dentist said it had to be done at the hospital as its not come up straight or somethign (at an angle)

Can I have it taken out privatley and if so how much am I looking at? Private dentists go on about how they are not restricted by NHS practices, can they do this?

if you need to be a hospital in-patient, and have a general anaesthetic , it'll set you back around £1000 - 2000.

if it's just impacted (at a crazy angle) a private dentist can do it just with local anaesthetic and possibly also sedation, and then you're looking at more like a couple of hundred.

This website for BUPA hospitals (http://www.bupahospitals.co.uk/asp/paying/priceguides.asp) says £1,100 minimum.

Why/how did you miss your original appointment?

Well he said it would be possible for me to have it under a little pain killers (local anasthetic?) or total sleep (general anasthetic)

Is he not allowed to do that procedure then? Hopefully a private dentist will be able to sort me out - 5 month waits are just ridiculous - I had seen the BUPA site - i am hoping a private dentist can sort me out.

Well if you attended your appointment you wouldnt have to wait another 5 months or so...

But im sure you have a valid reason so i wont critisise (sp).
Unless your rich i guess you might just have to wait im afraid.
