Hullo everybody,

Basically, am going away, have booked a flight which has been really hard to get hold of,it leaves at 9am. On the receipt of my bookings from the flight company, it says check in time : 7am. Now, I'm leaving from Gatwick, am hoping to travel from Taunton to Gatwick South Terminal by coach and basically, the National Express coach service that goes there from my neck of the woods...gets to Gatwick South at 7.30am if on time...so...I'm sorta stuck cause...well I'm not really sure what a check in time is if you grasp my meaning - is it the time from which you can validate all your info for your specific flight and have you presence recorded by the airport so they know your ready for your flight and are at the airport, or do you have to have checked in by 7am...anyone explain? First time flyer. Would coming in and checking in at 7.45ish be ok?

Malt xx :D

If checkin time is 7am that normally tends to mean that checkin closes at 7am. Which airline is it?

Phone the airline and find out what time the check in closes. Normally you are supposed to be there 2 hours before your flight, most airlines will close the check-in 20 minutes before the flight is due to depart, and, if the check in is closed, then you are fucked for getting on the plane.

The flights with Thomas Cook - I mean, if it works like Mist suggests, we'd arrive an hour and a half before the time of departure and should be ok. In theory. If what Jst says is right...then how do airports feel about passengers crashing in the departure lounge many hours before their flight takes off...!

Generally I think they accept it to some extent, but I don't think they like people staying the night.

if you're flight is with TCX and at 9am, then 7am is the time check in opens

Not sure what their cut off point is but I'd go with 40 minutes just to be on the safe side

different airlines have different cut off points, depends on how fast-a-turnaround they have :)

They like you there lots before hand so you can generate more dosh for the airport

http://www.thomascookairlines.co.uk/check_in_guide.htm - this clears it up a bit, still better to check with the airline or your booking agency.

Also bear in mind that if you cut it fine and your coach is delayed, you are frigged.

Go the night before and stop in a hotel.

On the other side of things, if you arrive late and moan like a stupid wanker because the airline quite rightly have closed check-in and wont let you board, then you might end up on one of those "airline" type programmes....
