For those that sleep on your side .. do you ever wake up with aching shoulders?

Before REM sleep, your body constantly moves. lying on your side all night would never happen. Pillows and mattresses cause the problems.

if you're getting pain in the mornings, you might have the wrong tension mattress, or be sleeping with too many, or not enough pillows. a properly supportive bed is the first thing to try. most people are sleeping on the wrong one.

Occasionaly I do, numb arms are bad though. hehe. Also get annyoing marks on my side that don't seem to go away, like, white lines. Stupid things, a good few on my hips.

I hate sore necks when your head leaves the pillow though. Grr.

Not really. As someone said, only if I sleep in an awkward position.

No really, sometimes I've slept on my arm funny and it hurts in the morning but only if I'm sleeping in the wrong bed or something.

Well I think my matress it too supportive and m pillows are not supportive enough.

I got a new pillow today with a contoured foam padding and a thing you fill with water and can adjust the stiffness of it by adding more or less water - so will try that tonight.

My matress is also a type of foam one - which I wanted cos I hate springs poking in me but it's more suitable for someone that sleeps on their backs I think cos it has very little give in it!

I think going tothe gym these days is also making me more likely to get soar muscles, etc

Yes, almost always. Or I might feel ok at first and get a sharp pain on my shoulder when I bend to pick up a pair of socks from the drawer. I don't know what to do about it, and some nights I can't fall asleep if I'm not on my side.

lie flat on your back on your mattress. then try to slide your hand under the small of your back. it should fit snugly. if it's a struggle, your mattress is too soft. if you can get it in easy and wave it about, your mattress is too firm.

and your pillows should be supportive enough that when you lie on your side, your spine is absolutely straight.

Valuable information... I'll try it too!

Well I tried my new pillow last night and it worked really well, the water compartment slides a around a bit and slips down but overall got a better nights sleep and it seemed to support my head better - these are on sale at Lidl BTW if anyone wants to get one about £5.99 but they'll go by the end of the week.

It's only been 2 nights, but I added a second pillow (so my head is a bit higher) and I think I feel better too...

On that point, I cannoyt get to sleep lying flat - I find it very uncomfortable therefore I must have four pillows on my bed - any less and I don't sleep.

My wee brother is the total opposite - he hates pillows.

Weird eh?

The way I understand it, it's however many pillows you need to keep your spine straight. Which can vary.

I have to have a stupid number of pillows as well, otherwise I just dont sleep at all.
