View Full Version : What to do about my mom

I don't know what to do,
I use the phone quite alot, Probably make between £30-40 worth of calls a month, last month i only made £10 worth of calls, I added the 17.5% VAT and payed for them,
My mom is now demanding that I pay the rest of the bill, calls which are not mine, it's easy to tell which are mine because it's one number, I pay for my cost of calls,
Now she wants me to pay the line rental, Even if i never used the phone my mom would still pay the line rental, infact she gains upto a £5 a month as i round my call cost + VAT to the nearest 10/5... now she wants me to pay for the rest of the calls which are not even mine, I pay for what I use which is resonable,
I have tired to talk to her about it but she goes off about it costing her.. WTF.. it's costing her fuck all, she told me broadband was a present for me and my brother, she never asked for me to pay for it and if she did i would willingly pay for it, first i'd change ISP to someone ALOT cheaper,
there for I'd pay an extra £15 amonth, I don't mind doing this, I get about £120 from EMA
Idon't know what to do, I sit down and talk calmly and resonable to my mom about it but no she doesn't listen and goes on and on.. changes from one excuse to another, cost.. im using it to much, she expecting a call which strangely never arrives.. heck sometimes when im on my mobile she even glares at me,
any advice on the situation guys?
Dont use the phone at all.
Then shes fucked.

Why don't you get your own phone line - or go to a public phone booth?

i live in a small villege and the public booth is normally always broken,
I dont see why i cant use it if i pay for my calls, Gee.. it's like shes against me having a life..
Jst, why is she fucked if i dont use the phone?

Because if you dont use it at all then she can't ask for any contribution to it.
However, I don't think that would work as you still use the internet and even though it is broadband you would still need the phone connection.
There isn't a lot you can do about the situation really. Either give her the money for an easy life or fight tooth and nail for your rights and risk it all.

Pay for the phone and then ask her to pay for her calls.

i hate the word 'mom' especially when people that use it are english :/
anyhoo. Have you tried to sit down and have a chat with your mum while someone else is there, like i dunno your brother or another relative so they can see both sides of the story and explain where you are coming from, or as someone else said don't use the phone at all use a pay phone instead then she will be a bit buggered in trying to get you to pay for it.
Or just use your mobile? i dunno *shrugs*

i would use my mobile but i need to call from a BT landline, it charges international calls at lo-call rate :) so 25hours worth of calls = £25
Like i said pay phone is out the option, and i try to sit down with family there but they tend to always take her side.. she came out with this one today, "my house my rules" tbh, its not her house, it's a council house, she only has it because me and my brother are here and she doesn't work so doesn't EARN her money

But if you were both to leave then she would still have the house and as the house is in her name it is still her house.
Seriously though, if you fight her on this one I could see her chucking you out. It isn't that much really.

if we both leave they're move her to a smaller house.. much smaller, eg 1bed flat, she'd lose all her benifits and probably wouldn't be able to support herself,
She tried throwing my out the other week, I got to the next town and she phoned me up crying, she threatened me with it but knows i would walk, she wouldn't do it again,
out of the last Bill the cost of calls was £50, only £10 was mine inc VAT and i can tell which are mine because it is one number, I payed her, then she saying she can't afford it... is it my fault.. NO
she's moved from paying monthly - quaterly (she says BT made her to do it which is probably ball) and she got charged threelots of service rental and Broadband ect to bring her up to march so it's all upto date and can start charging her quaterly.. Apparently thats my fault, she said it was.. but i thought BT made her..
I would start to pay the broadband fee all she has to do is ASK me, I mean it's not to much to do, when we got broadband she told me that SHE would pay for it for me and my brother, we both use it.. yes.. i admit i use it more but i would pay for it, IF she allows me to go with a cheaper ISP
Jesus, isn't so much to ask for but she blames EVERY thing on the bill on me.. This month the Bill was 27th jan = 1st march £220 to bring it all foward, Cost of my calls was £10.10 inc VAT broadband £66.80 summit, I gave her £10 already and will give her £30 next weekend, £15 the week after and probably another £30 the week after that, this is all my money i have, and it covers thebroad band, the cost of my calls and probably even this months call cost.

think shes being a bit unreasonable. everyone should pay for own calls and the difference - line rental and VAT should be divisable by whoever else is using it too. dunno about broadband though.
my mum was horrible to me once i got my uni place for awhile whilst she delt with the fact i was leaving her "nest" - could this be like that? are you still going to America??

im going on holiday to america next year, but thats it..
me and my brother sat down, next week we both give her £30 so its £60, week after that i give her £15, and week after that she gets £30, this is a total of £105, for both bills, this is the broadband and cost of my calls covered for, we're going to look at a cheaper ISP and see what we can get :)
she seems to sound a lil happier with this...

They wouldnt do that tbh. Some people think that councils should be able to do that when peoples children grow up and move out, but as of yet, they cant/wont do it.
