I'm just getting over the flu just now, and during the course of it my nose has been hell. I won't go into detail, 'Cos it's pretty minging, but y'know what I mean. It was so badly blocked etc...
But two days ago I went deaf in my left ear. Not totally, but partially. Does this have something to do with all the tubes being blocked, and if so, how can I unblock them? I've tried the usual, holding my nose and blowing really hard, sneezing hard, but nothings worked. Any ideas?

The eustachian tube runs from the ear to the back of the throat [why when on a plane you are asked to suck a sweetie to minimise the 'popping of the ears']
Since you are just over the flu, I would think it has something to do with this [if you sniff really hard when you have a cold - you will feel your ears block up] - leave it a couple of days - doesn't get any better go to your GP/Treatment room/Practice Nurse to have a look in your ear.

Yeh it sounds like sinus pressure, have you tried any of those things that are meant to clear your sinuses? I can't remember any of the names or know if they're any good, but it could be worth a shot if it's still the same tomorrow.
On a less related note, I have a friend who complained bout being deaf in one ear for a whole day, until that evening when she suddenly pulled the end of a cotton bud out of her ear! :yeees:

I was having a chat with some of my nursey friends and asked them if they still used cotton buds to clean the ears. Most of them said they did!!
These little buggers are dangerous things - only use them to clean the outside of the ear hole.

Thats what my mum suggested, that Vicks shit that sniff. I'll give that a try. If it doesn't work or hasnt cleared up in the next few days I'll go to the Docs. Cheers folks!
Andy, I hope you're not suggesting I'm that much of a muppet :(

Well you know Craig, you gotta cover all your bases, think how silly you'd feel if you really did have a cotton bud/god knows what stuck in there... :p
you did check, didn't you?

Up to you. I snort it like a junkie.
for sinus problems, nothing beats mu-cron
they are tablets (in a red&white box if i remember correctly) that relieve pain as well as clear up a sinus infection.

I once found a crayon in my ear. A blue one:D Dont try and pop your ears like you said you were, its really not good for you. You could make it worse.
Whats so bad about using cotten buds? How else am I ment to get the wax out of my ears? Use my finger nails??

When in the shower/bath when washing your ears clean around the ear passage. The wax actually helps to keep the ear clean by pushinh bacteria and debris out towards the opening where you can clean it away. The wax within the canal should not be removed.
