View Full Version : Peter Kay

Does anyone else not find him funny at all?

It seems everyone went crazy over Phoenix Nights and people seem to love the guy but to me he's a pain in the arse and not funny in the slightest.

Lenny Henry is another one that's as funny as a terminally ill child. It's painful to watch him and you have to pity the brain donors that laugh along with him.

Each to their own I guess. But it would be nice to know I'm not the only person that doesn't "get" Peter Kay.

He's done a few funny things on his stand-up show, but the rest is pish. He's really not that funny.

I've never found Lenny Henry funny. I never liked Ab Fab either, but loads of people do. Peter Kay was quite amusing in stand up.

Horses for courses.

Really? My Gran lives in Over Hulton.

All I can say is: don't get ill in Bolton - I wouldn't wish the RBH on anybody.

Doesn't make Peter Kay any funnier.

Fat, unfunny, joke stealing, Northern English prick. I'm not just saying this as a kinda dig at people, but have you noticed the onlypeople that find him funny are of "below average" intelligence? Peter Kay, the stupid persons' comedian.

Same deal with Little Britain and Lee Evans.

I like Peter Kay. I don't go wild over him like some people though. I also think Little Britain is funny.

Thing is, I like to watch comedians that make me laugh without me having to make any effort to understand. I'm not thick, I just don't want to think about things before I can laugh. Surely thinking aboput why its funny just takes the point of comedy away...

no, but i have noticed a lot of people who don't find him funny are the kind of people who think they're too cool for simple observational comedy.

i could tell you about modes of comedy and why it's funny, if you like, but you'd just disagree with me and whack your caps lock on. ;)

for someone growing up in the same general area as him at the same kind of time, it's funny. it's funny cause it's true. it's funny cause i have an uncle 'nob'ed and i drank panda pops and i spent the entirety of many weddings watching the kids slide across the floor on their knees.

it's funny cause it's true.

No, it's not. People keep telling me about his 'famous' biscuit sketch. I've lost count of the amount of times I've done exactly what he describes, exactly the way he describes it. It's just not fucking funny. Wow, you took an every day event and... described it? Fair enough, BUT WHY NOT MAKE IT FUNNY?

it's funny cause i drank panda pops and i spent the entirety of many weddings watching the kids slide across the floor on their knees.

Peter Kay just isn't funny.

'funny' is subjective.

you can make a statement like 'i don't find him funny at all', but 'he is not funny' is just bollocks, cause funny depends on the person reacting as much as it does the person telling.

I guess we only find him funny 'cause we're Scottish, the same way only (well, mostly only) the Northern English find Peter Kay funny.

Observational comedy is when the comedian bases a sketch/routine/joke/whatever around an event he or she has observed. The person watching doesn't have to have observed the event, and to think so would be incredibly narrow minded.

I wonder if you would have used the phraze 'Northern English Prick' if you were English yourself - I very much doubt it.

K seriously, you mustbe doing this on purpose. The amount of times I've heard Southern English people calling him a Northern prick is untrue. If I had called him a Northern prick, I would have been talking about the North of Scotland. Seeing as he isn't from the North of Scotland, I had to specify that he is infact English.

Please, stop jumping on my posts every time you think you see something. You don't, and you just end up looking stupid :)

I think I've said it before, but god damn I'm still bitter, he was in Belfast last spring but I just missed out on tickets as he was doing his thing in a ridiculously small venue/shed.

I've got his live DVD "Monster" though, and comparing that to seeing Bill Bailey live, I'd say they're both just about equal, as they're different in some elements. If I really had to choose one though, it'd be Moran simply because I find it fucking hilarious when he talks about Ireland.

peter kay is funny!...not all his work is,but he is a good comedian.
he's never going to appeal to everyone, but you can't say he's shite just because it isnt to your taste.

Dave Gorman = Win.

Peter kay is only good in stand up. Otherwise he is bland.

We can and do say he's shite, because its considerbly more interesting (though technically inacurate) than just saying 'I believe Peter Kay is not to my taste of comedic entertainment'.

i find peter kay funny, but mostly because im from bolton also, and 'get' a lot of his jokes, and little inside jokes.

I think Peter's only good when he's doing stuff AWAY from Pheonix Nights, e.g. Stand up shows, Corrie, and those John thingy beer adverts. :D

He's just a giggle, and I LOVE his accent. He's fab. Anyone who thinks someone's intelligence is belittled by the love of him bitching about garlic bread needs a clout or five. :p

I find Peter Kay funnier when he's doing Pheonix Nights, its absolutely hilarious, way, way better than The Office! I find his stand up funny as I can relate real life with it so much, maybe something to do with being from virtually the same area! How fast are slippers!!!! Although his stand-up is not a patch on Lee Evans

I think Peter Kay is a funny stand up, I laugh at his jokes and enjoy his observational comedy. I'm not of 'below average intelligence' and have a high IQ. I don't like Lee Evans very much but only a complete and utter moron would call someone they don't find funny a 'prick'. I've relatives who are most definately southern who find Peter Kay hilarious. What does any of this prove? Nothing whatsoever, except that comedy is subjective. When something is subjective what is the fucking point in arguing about? *insert really pointless smiley here*

I don't mind either of them. Peter Kay was good when he did his live shows, I found them hilarious.
However, I don't see the big deal about Phoenix Nights and that Max and Paddy thing.. It didn't do it for me, at all.

I think Peter Kay is very funny, but taste is always subjective. I will never understand why everyone wanks on about The Office, when it is quite clearly the most unfunny thing on television, and Ricky Gervais is about as funny as seeing your own bell-end get chopped off and barbequed.

Jack Dee pwns.

Marry me <33

Fat, unfunny, joke stealing, Northern English prick. I'm not just saying this as a kinda dig at people, but have you noticed the onlypeople that find him funny are of "below average" intelligence? Peter Kay, the stupid persons' comedian.

Same deal with Little Britain and Lee Evans.

Sounds like he would make a killing in the US.
