hey, wondered if you could help me.
I think i sweat too much and its getting embarrassing cause even though i use roll on and antiperspirant i still get sweat patches under my arms even if im only wearing a tshirt.
Is there anything i could use to stop this? i am really embarrassed about wearing jumpers and things and paranoid about the smell.

The smell is caused by bacteria, so as long as you're keeping things clean, there shouldn't be a problem. If you are sweating a lot, you can always go to your GP.

I suffer from the same thing - believe me the so-called anti-perspirants do not work!!

Axillary Hyperhydrosis - medical term affects I think 1% of the population. It is caused by over stimulation of the sweat glands by the nervous system. Treatments are few and far between I am afraid.

Botox injections into the armpits - expensive and need to be repeated every 3 -6 months. Quite painful apparently.

Topical treatments are available - These contain aluminium hydrochloride and are only available on prescription or over the counter from a pharmacy.

Oral medication - limited success and cause side effects because they are not primarily used for hyperhydrosis - e.g. beta-blockers are sometimes used.

And surgery!! - destroying the nerves within the armpit that control the sweat glands - problems associated with this obviously.

I would have a chat with your GP, but in the meantime I would wear cotton [not polyester] and try to avoid coloured clothing - wear white or black [limiting I know - but the sweat stains are less visible].

Believe me I know how you feel!

i have discovered that the only anti-persperant that works for me is sure.

could try that..

and make sure you wash every day and you vcould always try wearing sleeveless tops or at least not ones that are tight around the armpits. Also only wear cotton

One of my friends had this problem and she found a good topical treatment which you can buy in Boots or other good chemists. It's topical treatment containing aluminium chloride like the ones that Panthro mentioned but you don't need a prescription. It's called Driclor. There are some others on the market too.

I have this problem to some extent so i've used it and it is good. you use it at night every day for about 2 weeks and wash it off in the morning and it starts to reduce the ammount you sweat. It's not too expensive and worth a try :)

Yep same problem here, its so embaqrassing! Norm,al antipersparants just dont work, you need something specifically for the problem, it will cost more but you'll use it less! I use a roll on called Driclor (available at boots). You roll it on at night, if you use it regularily you will find once every 2 days is acceptable.

I have the same problem, school's the worse! Yet again, normal anti-perspirants don't work so I'm gonna try Driclor, I read it in Bliss and told my mum to get it but she never did so I guess I'll have to do it myself!

Mate I had this problem for a few years and it really did fuck with me. Other people who do not understand the problem do not help because they will always tell you that it is normal, or becuase you are anxious or something like that. Forget going to see a doctor, I did and they will simply say that it is normal and that some people simply sweat more than others and that basicly unless you are willing to risk surgery there is nothing you can do (and surgery can often create more problems). Looking back I am really angry because the solution is cheap, easy and extremely effective, its a product called ODABAN. I started using this stuff a few months ago and after just one application I simply no longer had a problem. Its a spray that you only have to apply once or twice a week (though some may have to do it more often) and it really does work. It is only about £2.75 a bottle and that should last around 6 months, it has no odour and can be used in conjunction with deodrants you like the smell of if you like. Do not mess about go to www.odaban.com immeaditaly and bag yourself some, i realise it must be hard to believe it could be so effective but it is otherwise I wouldnt get your hopes up! This product has changed my life and I wish everyone who suffered from this condition knew about it.

In fact even if you do not sweat excessively youll save a few bob on deodrants and antipersprants with this.

In short..

Go to www.odaban.com and buy some, you wont regret it!

Hi,

I am 27 and have had this problem since my early teens

My doctor prescribed Driclor - it worked but was awful to use. It really made my under arms itch so much that I couldn't get to sleep (as you have to use it before bed time). I have also tried Perspirex from Boots, which stained the under arms of my pyjamas!!

I am now currently using Triple Dry which works fine and does not give me any problems at all ;) Plus I only need to use it once a week now.... It was very handy when I was going to be a bridesmaid a few years ago. I was so nervous about getting sweat marks on my dress as the wedding was for mid-summer. Thankfully, it worked all day long!!

They sell it in Boots - it's about £6.99/£7.99 ish... but lasts ages as you end up using it so in-frequently ;)

Oh soz about the pricing error I got carried away with how much of a bargain it was I think. Either way its still good, I wouldnt get u excited unless I really did believe that this would help enormously. The thing that annoys me though is that if Id known about this stuff years ago I could have avoided the problem so easily and had much more self confidence! As you can imagine school is no fun with the pure discomfort it gives you when ur sweaty all the time. If u have any problems with it when it arrives (I think ur supposed to give it about a week to start workin tho I was fine straight away) please post back on this thread and Ill try to help u. I had a few probs with over application at first because I wanted to make sure Id put enough on (Im sure you can understand that!) which gave me some mild irritation but nothing serious, now that Im used to using it I use it better and have no probs at all.

I really hope it helps u guys out, if it does spread the word like ive tried to! I dont want anyone to suffer from this unecessarily!

I have heard from a GP that long-term use of driclor causes cancer? Maybe you should get a second opinion.

Hi, I didn't get Odaban in the end but I did get Driclor. I have got sensitive skin as it is and so it did hurt a bit but I got over that and it worked all day yesterday so I'm just hoping it will work forever lol. It is strong stuff but it works so I would recommend it.

there is some research to indicate that as anti-perspirants close up the pores and restrict the sweat glands that they can cause breast cancer
tis the same with all of them, just more with ones like these as they are stronger

i cant believe no ones mentioned MITCHUM. you get it from boots and its for problem perspiration. it's excellant!

when i had the contraceptive injection i had terrible problems with sweating and this worked wonders.

i didn't sweat at all with this, as far as i know it's not dangerous or linked to cancer and its a good price. theres even one for sensitve skin.

i still use it.

Been there done that. Didn't work for me. Honestly you name a deod/antiperspirant, mens or womens and I have tried it.

The same happened to me, it was really sore. I have sensitive skin anyway and it really stings so I'm gonna lay off it for a couple of nights and then do it again. It worked though, which is good. Just the itching and irritating that needs to be sorted now.

I've used that Driclor before but personally I wouldn't reccomend using it every night, I used to do this and it felt like it had burnt all my armpit, but I suppose it effects different people. I use it two nights a week and wash it off in the morning, and then the other days I just wash as normal, and then I have sweaty free days. :D :yippe:

:shocking: Don't use Driclor! I had exactly the same problem - it was awful. You must make sure that you wash it off properly and hopefully this will get rid of the itching. I would wait a week or so before trying anything else - give the skin under your arms a chance to heal (as it is very sensitive in that area). Maybe for this week use Simple deo or something that is kind to your skin.

Triple Dry worked best for me - I am still using it! ;)

Praying that it works as good as you all say - the itching or stinging will hoepfully not be as bad as the embarrassment of putting your arms up. *fingers crossed*

When i used Driclor I found that it didn't sting as long as you only put it right in the centre of your armpit (on the bit where the hair grows) as this is where your sweat glands are.
Once i managed to touch the skin next to this area and it stung like hell and went red. I learnt pretty quickly that a tiny bit in the middle is a much better idea!

Does anyone who does sweat alot underarm pits also sweat elsewhere or is that just me? I find if I;m hot and my legs are bent I get sweat patches behind my knees-and don't mention the nether regions! its so yukky and esp at nightclubs!!

Well I went to Skegness at the weekend with Hockey and I didn't take it with me at all. I put it on the night previous to going and it still worked. I also went out on the piss and still worked, it's amazing! Love it!

Sorry Jowolvo, I can't really help with your problem but I can suggest that if you get the sweat patches under your knees when they are crossed or whatever get into a habit where you spread you legs out and let the air get to those areas. Maybe that will help.

After years of suffering sweaty pits (late twenties) I stumbled across this thread, I always shower twice daily, literally after 30 mins of drying off and getting ready for work I'll be sweating under arm, quite an embarrassing problem, only able to wear white tops (I work at a desk, zero physical work and still sweat from underarm!) - going out was the same, get dressed and within the hour I'd normally have damp patches under shirt (no smell ever, just embarrassingly damp) - I read this and went off the the chemist to buy some Driclor (20ml for around £6, since found it online - 60ml for £4.97, but I wanted it there and then!), put it on Saturday night (only on the hairy bit), itched like a mofo for 2 hours and kept me awake, eventually I dropped off to sleep, woke up in the morning and washed off, a few red marks under arm, probably over eager with it! Anyway, as it was a bit sore I didn't put any deo on! That day I did some physical DIY work and not once did I break a sweat underarm!!! For me this is phenomenal, I didn't put anymore Driclor on last night (wanted to wait for redness to go, still a little sore)-this morning showered as usual, bit of deo and off to work, not once have I had the slightest hint of sweat from underarm, truly amazed, I had to keep feeling shirt because I could swear I was sweating, but it was always bone dry! As I sit here and type this (Monday evening) I still haven't sweated a drop underarm, not going to use it tonight either, redness is almost gone but may as well leave it another night, plus I want to see how long the effect lasts! Will apply a lot more conservatively next time now I know how effective the stuff is, give me 2 hours itching for 2 solid days dryness any day!
I also get clammy palms, tried it on palms every night thus far (no itching on hands at all), it's *reduced* hand clammy-ness a decent amount, but not eliminated it, I'll continue using on palms every night though to see if it works over a longer period, 2 evenings isn't much and the packet does say a week or 2. I'm just amazed it worked underarm so well (and so quickly), kicking myself for not finding this stuff years ago!

Panthro
25-04-2005, 08:40 PM
It won't totally reduce the palm sweating becauuse you constantly use the hands and the stuff will be rubbed off!

I was the same, checking my shirt every two minutes..... I havent put it on for a week and only started sweating yesterday [was in work and the damn heating was on FULL, and the sun was splitting the trees] but less than I usually did.

Top quality stuff and it actually saves me money - buy less deodorant.

Win-Win situation.

Mon the Driclor!!!!

Not a sign of sweat today either, still not applied any more, may use a little again tonight as I don't want to push my luck! 3 solid days including a lot of physical activity yesterday! It's already made a vast difference to my daily life, no longer afraid to reach across people or raise my arms, still feel 'vulnerable' as I can't quite believe there's not going to be any sweat there hehe, I'll be buying some coloured tops this weekend anyway, a huge novelty over white!
I've continued using it on my palms every evening before bed, still get a little clammy but far less often - it's improving every day - but to be honest, just having dry 'pits is still a huge novelty and I'm not too fussed about my hands at the moment!
As you say, it's actually cost saving, I use the merest dab of stick deo now, might even try sprays, sprays have *never* worked on me, used to end up smelling by lunchtime if I used a spray, had to use stick deo (normal roll on has always been crappy for me too - I even tried Mitchum a year ago, total waste of time - zero effect!) - the amount of lynx stick I used to wear used to ruin shirts too. (Never stopped me sweating anyway, used it to avoid smelling if a long day at work was planned!)
I got an order from http://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk/ - 60ml was cheaper than what I paid at the chemist for 20ml, plus it was very fast delivery (I've stocked up on it now hehe)

Yep thats the stuff I use. It's the same as driclor. I've been using it for a few years now, maybe just once a week. It does work but the itching is a bitch when you're trying to sleep.
I tried every deodrant under the sun, including mitchum and triple dry, and none of them worked. Although, the best everyday deodrant I've found is the Amplex roll-on, they don't sell it in Boots though.

Although anhydrol forte/driclor work very well, apparently they direct the sweat elsewhere, so some people experience more sweating in other areas. My friend did, but I can't say I've had this problem.

Panthro

Are you sure? Does it not diffuse into the blood vessels and be filtered out the kidneys. That is, you pish it out?

Jus been looking at this site 4 the 1st time and wen i saw the 'excessive sweating' message, i jus had to post a reply! Ive been suffering with this awful condition since I was about 15 and it totally dictates the clothes i wear! However, i have been using odaban 4 about 5 months now and it really is fantastic. Sometimes, it doesnt completely stop the sweating, but considering i used to b soaking wet all of the time, its only ever damp now. Duz sting a little, but is much beta than driclor, and is completely worth a little stinging! x plus, ive got my friend in2 it and she agrees tht its brill!

Hey i am so confused people, heres my case:
Well i started encountering excessive sweating around New Year when i found my armpits were soaked, since then everytime i go to a party i end up with this problem and its really getting me down. I've tried Sure and Nivea and they do crap all. I tried deodrant recently( bcos was out of AP) and i found on 2 days it worked when i was at school and i was completely dry, then last friday i had damp armpits again. Another thing is when im with my girlfriend at her or my house i experience NO sweating ever but when im with her in public i do...isn't that weird? is it a psychological problem? due to stress? cos im just mightily confused.

Cheers for any replies in advance

yeh definately agree, that in certain situations (like goin out in public) the sweating can be much worse, due to anxiety/embarrassment. Wen im at home, or in a completely relaxed environment, i hardly ever sweat, but if ive got to go sumwhere where there are new people or something, the sweating can be terrible!

Hope that works for you im at the stage where i might try something like that. I get the impression mine may be more hormonal change and anxiety though as yesterday i heard from my dad how he went through a period of serious sweating under the armpits when he firsted dated my mother (when he was 17-18) do you think there is a link?

when i went to doctors about mine she asked if i sweated anywhere else. As i only have excess sweating under my arms she said there is no problems with using this method. As long as you dont sweat excessively anywhere else this should work for you. This is my first day after apply for two nights. I am well pleased no wet patches on my t shirts and no sweating at all. I would recomend this to everyone, just told my sister so shes going to doctors to get some.

You don't need to get it on prescription, you can get it over the counter..

(apart from apply it in the middle of the armpit)

thankyou!!

p.s. i have previously used mitchum and triple dry deodrants and they have not really worked. i dont have smelly sweat neither...

I'm just amazed it worked underarm so well (and so quickly), kicking myself for not finding this stuff years ago!

i dont know how you could bear to keep driclor on...i had to take it off straight away and i am dreading having to use it again, although i will try if it worked great for you then perhaps i might pluck up the courage. :chin:

Cheers for any replies in advance

i find the same thing that if i am in the house i dont really sweat, but as soon as i step outside, the sweat comes pouring out! i went to the doctors and was prescribed driclor, and i have only used it once and had to wash it off 10 mins later coz it stung really bad. but going by what other people are saying, if you put up with the stinging, the results are non-existent sweaty armpits (hopefully!)

I had this problem for years and basically got round it by just wearing black and white tops (pretty depressing). Over the last couple of years, I have tried a number of products such as Obadan, Maxim, Perspirex and Driclor. They made my skin itch like hell, I couldn't sleep and spent most of the night scratching my armpits to bits and woke up to find them bright red and very sore. On one occasion when I persisted, I developed an eczema-type 'abrasion' but I usually gave my armpits a few days to recover before trying again which meant that these products never actually worked because you have to apply them every night for about a week before you can reduce applications to once or twice a week as required. A couple of months ago, I tried Triple Dry. It didn't sting at all but also didn't stop the sweat marks appearing on my clothes. Recently, I received an email from CORAD Healthcare, the distributors of Maxim, saying that they have developed a version of their product for sensitive skin (Maxim Sensitive). I ordered this immediately, it didn't sting at all and there is no sign of sweat marks. I ordered it directly from CORAD Healthcare in the US (www.coradhealthcare.com), as I haven't found it anywhere in the UK.
It is US$13.95 for one bottle or US$39.95 for four ('4 for 3'), but I wouldn't recommend this as it lasts a very long time. Good luck!

Hiya

This thread is pretty darn old. You are not alone though- loads of people use heavy duty anti-persiprant to combat sweaty pits. Start your own thread and the replies will come :) I use triple dry, wash it off in the morning then don't use another anti-perspirant. Like the other responses above, you may have to do this every night to start with, then reduce it to once or twice a week.

I have found through a discussion board a site that provides underarm pads against perspiration.... Does anyone uses those pads ?

hey, wondered if you could help me.
