How can I smoothly change from one Broadband provider to another? I'm currently on Wanadoo, on the old Freeserve tarriff, and want to move over to BT Yahoo. However, if I call Wanadoo now, surely they will cancel it straight away and I will be without broadband until I start a contract with BT? Can I sign up for BT, and then when it goes through cancel the Wanadoo contract?

It's best to call BT and let them sort it out for you.
They will do all the necessary stuff.

wrong.. when I moved to BT broadband they told me i had to phone up Freeserve/wanadoo and cancel it myself,
what you can do is keep your freeserve connection untill the day BT conect your connection but it shouldn't be to long as you line is already activated for broadband, all they have to do is set it up and send your disk/modem/info out, so probably 3/5days im guessing but ask BT how long it will take. Tbh I don't see why your moving to BT they suck major :p

I'm moving because the retards and Wanadoo are incompetant. Three times we've tried to upgrade to 1meg, and each time there has been a different issue - contract has not been fulfilled when it had been longer than 12 months, there was an issue with the debit card, even though without ringing them or changing anything, they were still able to take the correct amount of money every month etc
Plue 2meg sounds fun, and my dad will not go with anyone that isn't regulary advertised on TV because obviously any other ISP is out to get your money and scam you.
Moving between ADSL providers should be a lot easier now than it used to be. It used to be that you had to disconnect your old provider and then sign up all over again with the new one.
Nowadays you can ask your old provider for a transfer code or MAC code, then you give the code to your new provider.

Anyone here on Tiscali broadband? It took 3 months for mate of mine to migrate from Tiscali to Force 9.

Have you actually checked your phoneline will support those extra speeds?
These are the readings from my modem:
ADSL Link .....................Downstream ....Upstream
Connection Speed ........576 kbps ..........288 kbps
Line Attenuation ...........50 db ...............15.5 db
Noise Margin .................16 db ...............18 db
According to the people I spoke to My line should be able to suport 1mb/s but not 2mb/s - why don't you check yours too first before moving anywhere
I believe if you want 2 mb/s that 50 db figure should be more like 43 db or below

If you have fibreoptic cables in your area NTL aren't a bad bet. And bulldog got 1st place at last years industry awards competition; i.e. they're voted the best. 4meg broadband for something like £30 a month
my ntl is £25 p/m on 2mbit

your MAC address is individual to your network card
and BT isnt that bad, parents are with them and they is ok

BT line does support it, but I don't have the other type of cable (Lynx or something?) so NTL, Telewest etc are out of the question, and Bulldog is not available in my area until the end of March, but as I say, I doubt my dad would be happy to go with them.

I wasn't talking about MAC addresses I was talking about MAC codes, Migration Authorisation Code I think they call them. Two completely different things.
The MAC is used when you want to move between one ADSL provider and another without them cutting your service off in-between.
It's very advisable to do this as if you don't then you may have to pay for re-activation and you will have to wait for the whole line testing stuff as well.

BT Broadband isn't that bad, but obviously you want faster than the normal. TBH I can't wait to move and get NTL. Their service seems to be a whole lot better, tariffs and all.

Have you tried Freedom 2 Surf? Im with them, they are good too.
Should be easy to change ISP's as long as you aren't with the evil AOL who are just fucknig shitdicks to be blunt. Its impossible to make them cancel. You have to tell them about 20 times.
