a couple of people have sugested that the ports have gone, i'm really hoping they haven't because i didn't think i could replace them....

It started as being just intermittant and now they have stop all together.

any ideas how i can either fix them, or if i can get them replaced?

thanks

is this for a laptop or something as I am unsure how you could not know you can buy keyboards and mouses for desktops?!

This question's got loads of answers, don't know enough about what you're using though... have you tried using other keyboard and mice to make sure it's not just the actual keyboard and mouse that are knackered? Seems strange they'd go at the same time... unless they're wireless and run on batteries, in which case have you changed the batts?! If you're using ps2/serial connectors for your mouse and keyboard and it is the ports that have somehow broken, then you can get usb kb/mice, and vice versa (or try plugging something else into the usb) and if your pc doesn't have usb ports then it's the computer version of a 'write-off' in that any upgrades you might want to do would cost more than the computer itself... new computer time!

edit- if you really wanted you could get a pci based adapter to give you ps/2 and serial again too
