My copy of NAV 2002 has expired now, and I'm too cheap to buy a new subscription for a program that has caused more crashes on this PC in the last three months than it has solved.

I'm thinking of getting AVG, is it any good?

AVG's alright, but I find the new version has bugs. It wouldn't let me update my virus database after a while, for instance :chin:.

I recommend Avast. Much better.

I use AVG, never had any problems with it. ALthough the new version does seem to have very high memory usage.

Just uninstall NAV and reinstall, it then has another year's subscription

remember to click start---->run

and type in

"%TEMP%" without the speech marks etc

then select and delete all you can if it refers to norton then it should work, failing that kermit, have an accidental word with me by pm and see what i can do with a copy of nav 2005 for you, fully legal and for free

AVG seems to work fine. I use it, my Dad uses it, my housemate uses it, and none of us have had any problems with it. And it's free! :hyper:
I'm still amazed that people actually pay for anti virus, and firewall, software. A quick search of the net for Freeware can turn up just about anything you want - though you have to be careful that the freeware doesn't have spyware in it (though some of it's worth having even with the spyware, depending upon what sort of spyware it is - it's a trade off of sorts).

I should state that I don't want NAV 02 anymore, it's now beyond its usefulness.

MrG, I haven't PM'd you. Not at all. No.

Use AVG, have just downloaded AVAST too...

Haven't had any problems with AVG myself, but IT team at work have just converted all our anti-virus away from AVG... not sure that means anything though.

what really annoys me about a lot of antivirus programs is that when you do a full scan and it find a virus a lot of them stop and ask you what to do next :eek2:

AVG just continues checking until it's finished and then at the very end asks you what to do with each file that has a virus - means you can let it get on with scanning unattended

I do however find that fact it tries scaning my 1.4gb movie files annoying!!

I use AVG, and it works fine. No problems. That said, it's never picked up a virus, but that's because I don't give it a chance. So my referral probably isn't the best...

I use AVG free edition. It's good enough.
