Dr Pirate

P4 = lose AMD is the way forward

Kiezo

No, Athlon is the way forward. A less than 2Ghz Sempron is a biiig step backward :\

That would boot on a regular HDD wouldn't it? Wouldn't need a Mac specific HDD or anything?

For the love of God do not buy OS X unless you plan on dumping Zella and turning into a raging homosexual.

Try and get a 64bit Athlon with Windows XP (64bit) like a normal straight person.

Dr Pirate

how many times, Zella is not my wench.

I'm not building the computer for me btw, its for my wenches sister. I'm ordering XP Home with the Sempron.

Theres a steep price difference between the semprons tho.
1.75GHz = 48 quid,
2GHz = 70 quid.

Mac uses completely different hardware architecture. You wouldnt be able to run Mac OS X on a PC system unless it was within something like Pear PC in windows. You can't install Mac OS X as the sole operating system on a PC, just like you can't install Windows as the sole operating system on a Mac.

I hear from most folk = lousy after sales service.

I get all my pc bits from ebuyer and have never had any problems with after sales service. Had the odd faulty thing, generally RAM, but never had a problem getting replacements or sending things back or anything. Always hear within a few days of their decisions and so on.

I can't use my own stuff, because then I will be without key things I.e. a monitor.

Ok the processor is a bit slower but, it has double the ram, double the HDD and a DVD-RW rather than just a CD drive.

You could save your self few quid as well if you built it your self. Mines near on the same as yours but I have 256MB ram and a 1.58mhz Sempron chip. £299 - all bits from eBuyer.com

Dr Pirate

Thats where I'm getting all my bits, well ebuyer.co.uk anyway.

Kiezo

256mb RAM is suicide tbh, as is a 40gig hard drive.

I hear from most folk = lousy after sales service.
I can vouch for that! :mad:

I've personally had no problems whatsoever with orders I've placed. However, a friend has placed three orders with them, and they've managed to cock up two of them! The latest order is still awaiting resoultion about a month after the original order was put in! :mad: I will never, ever, reccomend them personally to anybody ever again!
I may risk putting in an order with them again, but will be checking around to see if I can get just as good a deal elsewhere to prevent any aftersales issues with ebuyer myself.
Their aftersales service is.... limited. It's all done through their system of "enotes". You can't speak to a real person on the phone, and nor can you email anybody. It all has to be done by their bloody enotes. :mad: And they take forever (friend has been waiting about two weeks for a reply when they were supposed to be responding in a week), and still has in incomplete order after ebuyer totally cocked up by sending a mixture of the damaged items, wrong parts, and sending out a returned item!!! Morons! Then they send one replacement part, and say they're refunding the rest - despite the fact that the part they replaced needs one of the parts they're refunding to work together! Morons! It's as if they employ illiterate chimpanzees to read their sodding "enotes". Didn't someone think "Ooo, they'll need BOTH of those parts or it's useless to them, we'd better ask them what they want us to do". So, despite saying they'd refund, they haven't, and my friend is stuck with a useless part. Worst thing is, it was something they bought for their Mum and Dad to use! As they haven't refunded, they can't even go and buy a replacement. :rolleyes:
So, that's me who may not use ebuyer ever again. My friend won't be using ebuyer EVER again, and nor will their parents. That's four people that ebuyer may have lost as customers due to their piss poor aftersales service. Morons! :mad:

That's what's wrong with ebuyer. And I won't even mention the previous order that they managed to cock up twice before my friend just gave up with their lousy service.

They're cheap, but use them at your peril!

I use EBuyer all the time. Don't know of aftersales care, but they are an INet company and I have heard they are slow on it. But ho-hum, for the prices I couldn't care less. Never had Faulty bits myself!

AMD = Cheaper, so most people like because they can O/C without care.
P4 = Faster, Multitasks ALOT Better (I have a P4, my parents have an equivelent Athlon, it can't multitask as well. And it has DDR ram! I am using SD! x( )
But I built a Machine recently, I used AMD because I am a cheapskate!
