View Full Version : Black only classrooms?

The Commission for Racial Equality of all people have suggested that black male students should be seperated and taught in classes away from other students.
As with male only classes this might help with the grades but is that really only what we are concerned about?
Isnt this just going to make them more isolated from society?

I don't understand the reasoning behind that at all, but then I went to an all girls school.
If it's supposedly "uncool" to study, what difference will it make putting black boys in a class together, surely it will still be uncool?

Bad idea in so many levels IMO. And it doesn't make any sense either. Surely if black kids are underperforming the last thing you want to do is segregate them, rather ensuring they share the classroom with people who perform well.
What a load of nonsense.

Find it strange that the CRE suggest something like this, would expect this to be a BNP policy to be honest

Bad idea - I have no problem with putting poor performers in classes by themselves, but that should be all underperformers whether they are black or white.
And I see no reason why black boys who perform well in class (as many do despite Trevor Phillips claims) should be taken away and segregated.
What next from the CRE - black only benches or perhaps seperate seating on buses??? Abolish the CRE and race relations in this country would take a massive step forward.

this is crazy...this proceeds under the assumption that access is a right which the state allows..that it is granted by government...its a very dodgy assumption to proceed under...
this is ridiculous and while on the surface it may seem to seek an answer to a percieved social problem...it will only drive deeper devisions into society...then you've created those for life, and legitimated them by making them official policy..
100% bad idea and should have been thought through alot better before being presented under this bodies banner...
IMO this will do nothing for their image and/or status...

surely it should be a case of students that need it should have extra lessons or lessons on their own or in small groups because they need it, not because of their race?

Segregation by skin colour? A disaster waiting to happen, whatever the motivation.

Stupid idea.
Would it be mandatory? Even if the Black kids didn't want to be segregated?
How about a half black kid? Or even a 1/8th black kid?

Separate but equal? are we really looking to Mississipi for education solutions?

Wonder what the CRE would have said if UKIP or Kilroy thought this one up.
I can see the logic behind separating people who are struggling in class from classmates who aren't. That sounds sensible although I'm sure that could be flawed. To separate black boys from other classmates however seems racist. It's an assumption that all black boys are struggling academically which is not true and it's making no distinction between the many black students who are not having difficulties and the black students who are. It's simply grouping them all together and guessing that they all have academic similarities - a guess based entirely on their race.

There are two black boys in my year at school, so that could be quite interesting, especially as we do not have any options in common.
I don't understand why separating all black boys is a good idea when 36% are still acheiving. I'm not struggling, I don't partake in the "bling-bling and gangster rap culture" and I don't lack a good, strong family unit and I'm sure I'm not the only black teenage boy in the whole country in this situation.

show why i take almost everything the cre says as crap
im no racist and i hate the cre cause it functions upon the premise we're different by different, when we aint, if you want to stop black kids doing so badly as a whole, improve those areas schools, as poverty breeds poor educational aspirations
kids who are behind deserve extra help, and so does every kid :) its investing in the couuntries future :)

Currently in America, Black 12 grade students perform at a level equal to 7 grade White students. So perhaps separate schools may allow for making each environment unique to the needs of each population group, see http://www.udel.edu/educ/gottfredson/reprints/2003suppressingintelligence.pdf

I do think however that in some cases seperating the sexes would be a good idea, boys do perform better away from girls.

In the 70s there was a study carried out in Philadelphia that discovered the reason for black educational failure was due to the language these kids were taught in, rather than a lack of mental ability. Don't know whether this would apply in the UK given most of these kids will be 3rd or 4th generation British citizens (and the linguistic competence this would suggest), but it is something to think about I suppose.
