Well, according to this story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4324281.stm) they have.

Now the figures are as debatable as ever, but some of the comments in the story pissed me off. Namely the Tory response.

Never a party to sing the praises of the NHS, never one to say "well done" to the staff who work their arses off, they have once again managed to offer a demoralising message.

Apparently this reduction is "pre-election trickery".

Thanks, Michael.

Its potentially a good thing, though the 'experts' I heard interviewed said that the winter rates are more representative, so we'll have to wait and see.

Having witnessed the demise of a patient who came in with a bed sore and died after growing MRSA in the wound only last week, I'd say there is still a long way to go.

And it's not the NHS alone that can solve it - community acquired MRSA is also a problem and nursing homes are notorious for spreading infectious illness.

Now, now Kentish. You aren't suggesting that this is isn't just a hospital aquired infection are you? Surely the public aren't to blame in some part?

mrsa can only be kept to a minumum by firstly removing private contractors from hospitals, making it manditory that all staff wash their hands after contact with patients, which at the moment isnt enforced and is the main source of infection, and not handing out antibiotics on demand, and forcing agriculture to stop using them

Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! The amount of people that do not know fact from fiction in this issues amazes me. The matter of the fact is, that a patient is more likely to infect themselves or their relatives are.

Question: How many of you when visiting relatives wash your hands before and after contact?? How many of you sit on the bed???

Over half of the population carry MRSA in their nose and throats (the reason why staff are not routinely swabbed - as half the workforce would be off for 6 weeks and be on Vancomycin) and MRSA only becomes a problem in enclosed spaces and with open wounds (hospitals!!). We happily live with it everyday and come into contact but causes no problems!!

"and is the main source of infection"

Wrong!!!! The main source of infection is intra-bodily transfer - i.e. a patient toucking an affected part and then tranferring the organism onto an open are in the skin.

Bit less of The News of the World and a bit more of books methinks!!

And remember folks, wash those hands :)

We come from different parts of the county. I'm from the most excellent south, he's from the heinous north. Where the people with six finger live, if you get my drift ;)

Our user names reflect the difference, Men of Kent are those born south of the Medway, Kentish Men we're born north...

That we both work in health is a coincidence.
