View Full Version : Desktop PC Won't shutdown
Went I close down my desktop everything starts shutting down and then it gets to a balck screen and all you can see is the mouse and it just hangs there, most annoying when you want the PC to auto shutdown after doing something, any ideas?

check the services that are running.
No doubt one of them has hung.

Hmm, one of our old ones did that intermitently. No idea for it, but it doesn't hurt when you just power it off anyway. So, meh.

Actually, shutting it down cold can cause a lot of problems with the reg, bootup values etc.

yar. It also makes sure that any unwriten data is flushed from caches, and stuff like that.
Check the event viewer for information about hanging services around the time when you are shutting down.

Well, I assumed you meant it had gone through the whole shutdown procedure but was still, like, powered on? If so that is the stage old windows used to say "It is now safe to turn off your computer."
I have poked this and it seems one of the windows tasks *could* be malfunctioning...
Just a bit of advice. I never got it fixed though, it only happened occasionally to me.
