I'm currently on my dad's computer, and he's been using a USB memory stick sometimes. Problem is, he didn't know to click on the taskbar icon before removing it, and now there are no less than 4 non-existant drives in "my computer". Clickin on the icon does remove them, but next time Windows boots they're there once more... How can I remove them permanently?

What version of windows?

For xp / 2000

Something like

Right click "my computer" and select "manage"

Cick on disk management.

Identify the drive you want to remove, right click on it, and see if there is an option to remove it. If there is, use it.

Otherwise, you could try the control panel - system - hardware - device manager

and try finding the drives in there.

Well, I'm not there now... But I deleted the drives from the device manager when I was, and on the next boot-up it found new hardware "USB memory storage" as if the thing was still inserted!

That is odd.

I suggest plugging the thing in and removing it properly maybe.

Well, I tried it with my stick (why does this sound wrong? :p) and it didn't help with the extra drives. And that one wasn't actually his, so he can't get it back. Though I doubt it could help.
But anyway, there are just 4 extra drives. Not a huge problem.
