As well as hosting I've fond a nice looking .co.uk domain name that is free that I want and surprised no one has taken it yet

I have used 1and1 before but I don't want to use them anymore because they kept charging me inthe past for domains I'd wanted cancelled and it was a big effort to get them to stop and refund and the whole process has taken over 2 years cos in the mean time they'd renew other domains I wanted stopped.

Which company is good for registering domain names?

And also I have oen name which I now have for 2 years which might make a good email address for people to use, can I perhaps setup a virtual webmail service, not on my server though .. LOL :p

Registry is much of a muchness because they all charge around the same, or they charge fuck all but have stupid conditions.

I do it through my hosting provider.

Avoid clicknames though, they had lousy customer service, failed to renew, etc.

www.123-reg.co.uk are cheap. Haven't had any problems with their service. If there are problems, then it's all dealt with online - ie you don't get to speak to a human being, but it all seems easy and straightforward, and I don't anticipate problems. They also offer hosting at a good price too.

I was going to recommend 123-reg also. There's not really a lot in it when it comes down to registering a domain with a reputable registrar. If you take a look in the back of any Internet magazine, .Net is a good one, most ofthe companies offering services in there are decent and charge generally decent prices.

I found the above company that is more hosting but the do a $2 per month package and throw in a .COM name each year

BTW Their reviews for hosting are pretty bad but if you're just after the domain name then maybe OK and if budget is very tight!

be careful that they register it in your name and not theres, and that you get put down as the admin contact on the domain.
