Heya guys,
first of all this topic is about pregnancy so stop reading if its not your thing...

my gfs first day of her last period was on the 13th January making her most fertile from the 24 to 29th or something. last night we had intercourse and the condom ripped and i came inside without knowing it had torn. I went to speak to a gp and he gave me 3 cilest(e) pills to take all at once.

ive done some reseach and appaerntly they are just birth control pills in a pack of 21. so, i was just wondering if this is effective in any way and if anyones tried taking triple the dose ????

thanks in advance,
Jay

I've never heard of cilest being given instead of the after-morning pill?? :eek2: and surely he wouldn't be able to just give them to you, you're girlfriend would have to go and speak to a docter herself in order to get a prescription of any kind - you can't go on her behalf

i personally havent heard of that. would've thought she would need the one called levonelle- which is the official m.a.p. im not a doctor though so dont take it as gospel, as a doctor , he should know what he's doing.

maybe your girl should ring brook or the family planning clinic and get a second oppinion if shes concerned. she should probably do that anyway so that in future you are still covered if the condom breaks again.

thought that was odd too, it could be dangerous for her wouldve thought coz even when u go for MAP yourself they want to know ins and outs of a ducks arse first.

Yeah exactly, i had to take the morning after pill once when i was younger from the chemist, and even in the chemists they have like a 15 minute private chat with you so that they know its right for you and that you know what you're doing...

Isn't it illegal for a docter to prescribe something for a patient that they havn't even seen...?? All sounds very odd to me

I have heard of taking a larger dosage of contraceptive pills to act as a morning after pill, but i couldn't say whether it was safe or whether it works or not. As far as i am aware the morning after pill is a higher concentration of hormones than which are found in the pill, so possibley, in theory by combining a certain amount of these together you are upping the hormone levels.

The fact that the doctor prescribed it should (hopefully) mean that it is ok to do, but you could always go back and have a chat with him if you are unsure?

I found this for you

http://ec.princeton.edu/questions/dose.html

might help clear some things up.

Although just to point out that it is american and sometimes they have different 'names' for the same drugs.

I'm not sure about the ins and outs of the laws in Malta regarding EC, (I think abortion is illegal there) but I had a look on the Emergency Contraception website (http://ec.princeton.edu/worldwide/countryquery.asp) and they don't seem to provide Levonelle or an equivalent. For example, they recommend 4 pills from one pill type to be taken, then 4 pills 12 hours later.

They didn't have cliest listed on the board, so I don't know what the dosage would be, however, if in doubt, go straight back to another doctor.

first of all thanks for the prompt replies...

sorry i didnt write the full story... m.ap pills are illegal here and so is abortion, were stuck in the middle ages of christianity ! i know it sucks. there are no family planning clinics or anything and in order to go to a giny u need ur parents consent.

the doctor i went to is my auncle so thats how he gave them too me without any fuss... i trust in his knowlede but i just wanted some re-assurance.

its the only option we have at the moment. this sort of thing has never happened to either of us and we are both really concerned obviosly. im 17 and my partner is 16, weve been together for about a year now. were both in school and we cant have a kid at this age definately, plus her parents would kill her and we dont believe we can go through with it.

i had her crying all last night and today, in order to support her i need a bit of reassurance thats all.

thanks again guys,
keep me posted if theres something ud like to share or let me know please.
thanks a lot, u guys on this board are really helpful and caring towards others, i and many other ppl im sure truly appreciate this.

cheers again,
Jay

I'm a bit confused (which isn't hard but never mind!)
Did your uncle give you a form of the MAP which is in fact illegal? What happens if accidents like a condom breaking happen in Malta when Abortion and the MAP are illegal? Do you just have to go and have the baby?

Sorry for the questions!

if they are that harsh maybe your girl should go on the regular pill if you are going to continue having sex. is that allowed there?

Nope, at our clinic (Marie Stopes) we frequently see ladies flying in from Malta.

As far as I know the active ingredient in the MAP is just lots of the normal stuff that goes in pills in one mega dose, so I guess taking lots of normal pills is the best you're going to get.

Plus I suppose there is no reason for the doc to lie, especially as it would seem that he is sticking his neck out anyway.

hopefully yes, she needs a little convincing though... lol

its worth it in case this happens again...especially if the only option the two of you have if she does get pregnant is to have it.

I think he should have given her the morning after pill. The same has happened to me before, but i was given the morning after pill. I think you should go back and see your GP. The morning after pill can be taken up to 72 hours after you yhad sex, but is more effective the sooner you take it.
