Is the iPod like, top shit for music at the minute? Or is there something better? I've got a NetMD but it pisses me off and I'm not too much of a technical kinda guy.

I absolutely adore my iPod, best thing I've bought in a long time. Don't listen to the haters.

More to the point, don't listen to people who use words like 'haters'.

Sure, iPods are great. They hold a hell of alot of music, are simple to use, and transfering data is fast and easy. Shame Apple are faggots and heading down the same road as Microsoft. iPods are notorious for their battery issue. iPod batteries (as with any rechargable batteries) are limited to a certain number of charge cycles. Though unlike most, you can't actually fucking change iPod batteries. Earlier versions were destined to break after around a year, with newer models lasting anywhere up to a whole 18 months  In order to actually get a battery replacement, you need to send your iPod off to Apple... and they'll do it for practically the same price you bought the iPod for in the first place.

Ignore these moron iPods owners who are trying to convince themselves they didn't just waste their money: do the right thing and get a Creative Zen or the über-stylish Philips HDD120 instead.

Both are a fraction of the price, too :/

No I agree that the battery issue is a problem with iPods, its a pisstake that replacements for it cost around £80. My little sister has got a Zen touch, I don't think there's anything wrong with them but personally I much prefer my iPod for a few reasons.

Oh and I'm a clever iPod owner who got theirs on the cheap ;)

They cost more than £80 unless the prices have come down in the past few days, 'cause I know someone who had to send off for one.

It says around £79 to replace a battery out of warranty. (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/0,39020351,39119293,00.htm)

this is not really a direct response to your question cos I really have no idea which is the best mp3 player, although I think I remember reading somewhere that the Zen Touch ones are really good or the iRiver ones cna't remember which. But what I really wanted to say was does anyone else think that the i-Pod mini's are a rip off? You get a 4Gb pm3 player for £179.00, but if you pay an extra £40 you can buy a 20Gb i-Pod for £219.00. Thats an extra 16Gb of memory. Think I might be cheap though and get one of those new i-Pod Shuffles, 512Mb for £69.00, which can store about 120 songs and to be honest I don't really think I could listen to 10,000 songs anyway so theres no need for me to get a proper i-Pod. Well actually thats a lie if I could afford the £219 for one I would but I can't. :(

as i said in a thread, i have an archos av400.

video/mp3/data storage/photos i love it. But i dont know the price of it but whatever it was it was worth it  battery lasts near 10 hours and thats like five movies you could have watched. Also, the battery is a clip on one.

ive got one of the sony ones and they are fantastic. They are easy to use and the software supplied is simple, and advantage is that every now and then they do updates where you can send it off and they update it so it has new things

Get one! Just face the battery issue when it comes along. You will love it too much by then to get pissed off.

I love my iPod. That's the end of it as far as I'm concerned.

One thing ive noticed that people neglect to mention when talking about mp3 players is the actual sound output...i mean, yeah its nic eif it can hold a good amount of music, has good battery life, looks nice, makes your tea, whatever...but does it sound good? I mean, i have an old sony discman that i got for free of a mate who didnt want it, it fits in the pockets of all my favourite clothes, and when accompanied with the £2 headphones i got from poundstretcher it is hands down the best sounding personal music playing bit of kit i have ever owned....
so to my point: sound output, the only issue really, which mp3 player has the best ?

Peace

but surely the sound output would be marred by the £2 headphones youa re using i find even headphones that are under 15 bucks are usually shit ive sepnt so much on headpones in the last couple of years and im still to find a pair that i can say are brilliant but thats jsut me i guess but as far as sound quality from a player the ipod is the best i've tried so far after you put the volume boost on it

To be honest with you, ipod is the greatest thing ive bought in a long time. The sound quality is great, sometimes its not depending on weather u download ur music or its from cd or itunes. But members of my family have had the napster, the zen , jukebox etc, and well... i find my 20gb ipod so much higher quality, u get what upay for... I know it aint really an issue but the ipod looks so sexy. The battery thing is an issue but the only reason they run out so quickly is because ppl cant help them selves but play with touch wheel and keep clicking thru their menus or changing volume over n over.

as stated, i'll worry about the battery issue when ti comes to it. it's just so easy to use, looks good and sounds good as well. not had any regrets about buying it :)

as for decent headphones, try some sennheiser ones, can't recall the exact type thought at the moment.
