So, are there any tricks when picking out what color to buy?
With concealer it's a tone lighter than your skin. So what are the "rules" when it comes to blusher?

The only "rule" I've heard in relation to blusher is to pinch your cheeks and see the colour (which is supposedly your natural blush  ) and then take it from there. However there are also the guidelines provided by your complexion - 'English Rose' complexions would probably be more suited to pinks, Olive skin tones probably more bronze shades, and the peachier shades for pale skin with a golden tint (as opposed to the pinkishness of 'English Roses'.)
However personally I ignore all this, and have blushers in every shade and format available. Lately I've been more into cheek (and lip) stains, which not only seem to last far longer on my skin; but all seem to provide a very natural look. It's one of my worst addictions though, every shopping trip I go on; I return with at least one blusher

I have the same troubles with blushers, I never know what colour/s to go for. I think slightly pinker shads suit me, but I've always been too scared to try one of them stain things incase it goes all streaky and stuff :(

i recently discovered the joy of blusher. i'd been using a bronze/pink powder one, which just looked shit and made up.
but then when i had ten minutes to spare in boots i decided to try out cream blusher. single greatest make-up decision ever.
reddy bronze makes me look like i've caught the sun. bright pink makes me look like i'm actually blushing. both make me look a hell of a lot healthier.
the natural collection blush sticks are great for brozey shades (and cheap!) and i have an amazing pink fcuk one that was a wee bit pricey, but has lasted and lasted and is worth every penny.
