I am pretty sure I have found a bargain here. I want a hairdryer designed to make hair sleeker, but i'm wary of this word 'ionic'. I know its a good thing related to hair condition but what does it actually mean? I am being wary as i know how these people jump on the latest fad bandwagon and con people into buying 'ceramic COATED' products just coz they threw the word ceramic in to help. Blah. Anyway, can anyone explain these few bits of this hairdryer?!

-Powerful dryer with double ionic ports for enhanced ionic conditioning.

-Hinged rear filter with double filtering system.

-Ionic switch indicator light.

Bargain??? (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=2501&productId=112393&clickfrom=name)

any of the bits going on about ions or ionic, is to do with a new kind of hairdryer which ionises the particles on the air it blows out, which apparently tames frizz and increases shine. I dont know if it works. My physics isnt great, let alone the physics of hairdrying, but it sounds posh, and id quite like one :D
The hinged rear filter would mean that the filter has a hinge (maybe for cleaning, but i wouldnt have thought theyd encourage people to tkae their hairdryers apart for cleaning)
Double filters to stop the elements in the hairdryer getting clogged up with house fluff and becoming a fire risk.

it's not a bargain. i found that ionic hairdryers don't make much of a difference and to be honest, you're better off with something like this (http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=2501&productId=105381&Trail=C%24cip%3D17009.Personal%2Bcare%3EC%24cip%3D 17013.Hair%2Bcare%3EC%24cip%3D17014.Hair%2Bdryers&categoryId=17014&clickfrom=image) because looky! it comes with a diffuser (handy because they're difficult to buy seperate and u never know when u might want one) an AC motor (always good) and 6 different heat settings! well worth the extra fiver methinks.

This is total bollocks.

An atom has an equal number of electrons and protons. A positive ion is created when an atom loses an electron and has an overall positive charge. And whenever an atom acquires an extra electron, it becomes a negative ion and has a negative charge.

But you can't have a negative ion without a positive ion or else you would be violating one of the fundamental laws of nature. They balance each other out.

And a hairdryer certainly can't shoot negative ions through air! You'd die. That would be like a ray gun from StarTrek or something!! :o
