Need quick answers to this please.

When your looking at buying ram ( im looking for SDRAM ) does the speed actually need to be taken into ccount or does it not matter but rather to make sure you get the correct type ( ie SDRAM ). Typically i have 133mhz with my current ram and im looking at upgrading, buying it off ebay but i want to be sure about this.

Cheers :)

first of all ram bought of ebay is likely i guess to be used, be careful with it

while some motherboards will take an increase in ram speed, adjustments on the board have to be made, though some boards with only take one speed of ram

i dont know much about the innards of a board to fiddle with it, and/or be able to tell you how to do what you need to do, to change the board

something like ram and/or critical computer innards i always like to buy fresh and new, not just because of a guarrantee i might get, but less chance considerably of it dying before it even started working

Hm.. good point, in rushing around i did not think of this point. Ta

I have found some that say they are brand new whilst the majority are used. WIll give it more thought

To answer your question, the speed is not necessarily important. In dual channel stuff you should try to use RAM of the same speed if you can. If you can't use RAM of the same speed, then the RAM will run at the speed of the slowest stick.

I wasnt 100% sure but i have been looking for the same speed i have now.

Thanks :)

SDRAM is becoming very old and expensive now.

you would be better off getting a new motherboard and using DDR RAM wouldnt you?

I probably would but i havent looked around and i dont have the money for all that, assuming it would cost a fair bit?

You can get a good motherboard and processor bundle for example:

AMD Athlon 2.8ghz
(Any new respectable motherboard)

Get that for about £120 then 512mb DDR RAM for about £45. This could prove costly if you are only looking for RAM.

You can get 512mb SDRAM 133mhz for roughly £80 i think.

What ever floats your boat :)

I looked into this because I have a slowish PC and had fuck all RAM. Sadly I have SDRAM...

Cost me £60 for 512mb, which wasn't too bad.

Was also told that I couldn't get a new processor but would have to update my motherboard and change to DDR. The cost of that wasn't much different from getting a whole new PC.

Haven't gone that far yet but by the end of the year...
