usb 2 problem

my usb port has just decided to start running slow (1mb-4mb /sec , supposed to be at least 40), but there are no errors reported anywhere. any ideas?

Did you format or reinstall windows or something? Sometimes USB 2.0 ports need drivers or they work like USB 1.0 .

What has changed?

nothing's changed as such, the mp3 has been working fine since boxing day, and the usb was running at about 30-40mbps. i haven't changed anything or even installed anything new, but now the usb is running at 0.5-3mbps, and not actually transferring the files to the player.
