Which movies had the best and most surprising twist?

For me the twist in the original "Planet of the apes" was very good and also in the 6th Sense although I thought the movie itself was damn boring!!

Also in the original StarWars series finding out who Darth Vader really was

fight club does it for me, its a total mindfuck. empire strikes back had a good twist if you didn't already know about it (being about 12 when they were re-released, i somehow already knew).

Matchstick Men had a fairly good twist, although I did start to see it coming not long before the end.

Usual Suspects or White of the Eye (in a wierd and very disturbing way)

Unbreakable was quite good. The Hole had some good twists, but it was a shit film.

Also House of Games, but that's quite an old film now. Oh, and The Game, that was one big twist all the way through!

House of Games, can't believe I forgot that! Twist a minute from the water pistol to the airport at the end.

'Please sir, can I have some more?'

Superb.

Wild Things (the original, not the crappy sequel).

It has a huge twist ever ten minutes and then a few more in the credits. It can be a hard movie to follow.

Definitely worth it though.

I liked the twist in Usual Suspects.

I didn't think anyone else would remember House of Games tbh. There's not many films I'd watch more than once but that was one of them. I saw that last 15 years ago! :o

Maybe slightly obvious but The Village and The Others both had good twists.

Would have to agree about the original Planet of the Apes, something else which the remake fucked up. I also thought that Sixth Sense had a good twist, but I saw it coming...

Another one which impressed me was Twelve Monkeys. Worth watching for sure...

No, the twist is supposed to be that all the seemingly unimportant stuff (the little girl leaves glasses of water everywhere, the baseball club on the wall, the wife's last words, the son having asthma) actually had a purpose to serve.

doesnt it ever rain
I (and many many others, I suppose) had the same question.

most imp-fight club-that screwed with my head as I had to leave for work half way thru! Granted it was only 10 min from the end when i got back but a film has never messed with my head like that!

another one i never saw comin was a (not that good) film with john cuscak-murder spree at some motel yet i can't remember the title! It was an ok film but I watched the directors cut so unsure if normal version was same at end!

i also loved 6th sense twist!

The twist in Saw was good, just a shame that it was such a bad film in every other respect.

that'll be the one! thanks! I think I only watched in for shallow reasons of john cusack being in it!

Well since people have mentioned Fight Club, The 6th Sense and Usual Suspects.

I'd like to add, 'The Others' - Wasn't that great of a movie but it did have a good wee twist.

Took me a whole ten minutes to guess the plot from the Sixth Sense.

Adaptation however, is something else.

Hmm I could see the 6th sense one coming, and I'm never usually that quick.

Unbreakable's though was a fantastic ending.

Vanilla Sky's was a good twist - though I still don't understand after many viewings what the twist actually was; all I know is that it was a damn good unexpected twist!

Though the award has to go to... Twister! That F5 at the end gave a great twist... :D

(sorry, will crawl to bed... :o)
