View Full Version : Spain vs. England - an apology

Would be nice, wouldn't it?
In fact several apologies would be nice.
We could start with an English apology for the thuggish behaviour of a couple of our players. Over the top really, for a friendly.
Then perhpas we could have a Spanish apology for the unacceptable monkey chants which Ashley Cole was subjected to after his tackle on Salgado. Assuming that is that the Spanish FA heard what the microphoes picked up. Not that they did last night.
Anyway, half time, Spain are deservedly one up.

Spanish fans are like the Spanish coach. A racist tosspot who should be getting seriously fined by UEFA.
Anyway, the scorer's name is del Horno :hyper: </childish giggle>
The monkey chants and the like continued throughtout the second half too. Disgraceful.

Hate to think what sort of monumental punishment will be handed down by the authorities for the chants.
On the other hand, Wayne Rooney, the new Gazza or what?

UEFA will give them a slap on the wrist - if that.
As for Rooney it was quite funny watching him throw his toys out of the pram!
Yeh Rooney looks like the new Gazza I agree, also what was he drinking on the bench, sure looked like a beer bottle he was holding! Don't know if anyone else picked that up....

I saw that and it definately looked like a bottle of beer, he was quick to hide it.
I heard the monkey chants in the first half but wasn't sure whether they were just booing. Second half though they got really loud especially with wright-phillips. I felt sorry for them because its got to affect you in some way, I know if it was me being subjected to that then I don't think i'd last 2 minutes before losing it and getting myself sent off.
Anyway it was the shittest game of football I've ever had the dis-pleasure of watching. 1 shot on goal all the game, hardly got a touch of the ball for 90 torturing minutes. Spain played some magic football and were just 10 times too good for us, that standard is what English football needs to aim for and we're a long way off it yet.
Couldn't really pick an english player out who played well, thought Beckham started brightly but seemed to go off the rails after the penalty, Ferdinand read the game well as usual, Terry was ok but not at his Chelsea standard, Cole and Neville got run ragged all the game. Butt was absolutely shit and with passing like that he wouldn't get in my football team (also his marking cost us the goal). Owen, Rooney and Smith never got a sniff of the ball.

Bridge and Robinson were the only ones who played OK.
I've always hated Nicky Butt and he was an embarrassment.
It would be nice if Spain actually got a decent punishment for their racist fans but it won't happen.

I thought bridge did ok and Robbo but even though Spain dominated all the game Robbo didn't have too much to do apart from the penalty which was only fair he saved. Loved Robbo punching the air after he saved the pen before realising he had to go get the ball
Like the quote in the sig Dan :D

It's a fucking disgrace what some Spanish fans did.
I can only apologise for the behaviour of the racist tossers.
For what is worth this does not happen in league games at all. The Spanish coach Aragones and his sustained racist rantings (and his refusal to apologise for them) has much to answer for.
I certainly think Spain should be made to play behind closed doors for at least three games. It'd be nice if Aragones is given the boot as well. Fat chance of that happening though, since on the field the team is doing okay (and we were far superior yesterday, incidentally :p ).
As for Rooney, it is worying that he can be winded up so easily. Future rival teams will only need to make a few remarks on the days leading to a game, and presto! Shrek will get himself sent off.
A bit of a twat that lad is...

I think without his temper he'd only be half the player.

Sven bottled it by taking off Rooney when he did, why not just wait 4 mins until half time? All he did was please the home crowd and encourage the Spanish players to keep up their over reactions after any challenges.
Yeah but the way things were going with the wayne the caveman rooney last night he wouldnt have lasted 4 mins to half time.

yep he was definitely too fired up. Sven made the right decision, not sure how long it could take to sink in though. :(

Since when have England been good in a friendly though?
Shrek is an embarassment to the England side.

Heard Gordon Taylor, the Poison in the Game, talking about the racist chanting. He suggested that the players should have been taken off. He said that they were beinh humiliated.
Well firstly, I don't agree with them walking off. THat would just be giving in to the racists and wouldn't have achieved very much, although it would have sent a clear message.
But I think the biggest humiliation was the way that the team were playing and for that reason I would have supported them all being taken off.
Bag o' shite. Not fit to wear the shirt etc

Its a difficult one this, one of the Black players (can't remember which) has said he didn't want to be taken off. I can't honestly say what I would prefer to do if I was in that position and the choice was mine, its a difficult one.
The authorities should ensure that the punishment is draconian.
On another note I am organizer of a stag weekend away for a group of mates and one of the choices of destination was Madrid.
Note the word, was.

Real Madrid give out more racist abuse. (http://www.football365.com/news/story_134830.shtml)
Good to see UEFA posturing, though as it's Real they won't suffer any punishment.
