Complete village idiot question here:

I've got a digi cam which we bought rechargable batteries for.

Now the question i need the answer to is

Do rechargable batteries have a shelf-life and if so how long is it usually? Because i've charged them up and they still keep dying.

you do realise that you are supposed to use a high amp charging battery charger if they are NiMh or similar?

Yes they do - its always best to wait untill they are fully flat and then charge them fully up.

Though they shoul last at least a couple of years before they start to die.

Ah you mean the NiMh charger i bought for them about 3 years ago?

Kiezo - yeah they're duracell how did you guess?

On the serious side they're hahnel rechargeable ones. Although we're had them about 3 - 3 1/2 years old so i'd pretty much guessed that they were about dead.

I meant like, nickel-metal-hydride, lithium-ion or whatever

Aaanyway if you had them that long they're more than likely dead.

Stop being a cheap-skate and get your ass to the shops

You want to buy Rechargable batteries that are Ni-mh and are 1700mAH or above, most camera will last a bit longer on that than usual recharables and obviously long than your average general battery.

These days it seems over 2000 and above is the norm.

Cheers Richeh, these were NiMh but they were only 1600 .

Np. What you will, or migth find is that if you use batteries that are less than 1700mAH they will tend to go dead a lot quicker.

One customer who i served was trying to run a digi cam on batteries that were suitable for using a cd player, and thats it they were between 900mAH and 1100mAH ahd she had no idea about this.

I soon put that right :D

To run the digital camera you need the high powered rechargables, look for the big number down the side. yarr.

If the digicam came with a rechargeable battery (which mine did), then it will come with a purpose-built charger. It is also possible to charge the camera up thru the USB port.
