Hi.

My computer is fucked up again. The Internet is TERRIBLY slow and icky, half of my programs won't work (MSN, AVG, etc) and half of my icons have gone to shit as can be seen in the pic' below:

http://members.boards.ie/tum/messed-up-1.gif

I can't open regedit as something is causing it to close almost instantly, so there is no way for me to mess in there.

When opening up the task manager, one of the processes is called "csrss.exe" and cannot be ended (I remember AVG picking it up as a virus not long ago) and can't Google for any other info. See pic' below:

Need help. Any appreciated. Thanks.

try running a panda active scan.

lol. Thanks. But AVG definately picked up a file called csrss.exe as a virus. And still, all my other problems remain.

Panda scan in progress...

Ok I'll give it a go. Thanks.

I stand corrected. The Panda scan thing has started to work. Results soon...

About 24 found, some right nasty bastards. All gone now.

How do I stop them coming back though ffs? I never used to have this problem. My ports aren't open, ZoneAlarm pisses me off and Sygate doesn't work right on my comp. Need help. ;(

Try going to symantec.com and searching for the virus. It might tell you the name of an update to download from Microsoft. I keep doing that ever since I got XP (did I mention that I had 98 for 4 years, my habits didn't change, and I only ever found ONE virus?).

csrss.exe is not a virus. Delete it and your system will die. The Client Server Runtime Subsystem process, also known as the Win32 subsystem, generates a worker thread for client requests.

Some baddies will copy it's self to that file making it hard to remove.

csrss.exe is not a virus.

There was a virus called crsss.exe though. Telewest told me about it a bit ago. Putting SP2 on XP is supposed to close the gap.

Thanks Kermit, I'll look into that.

Two more things which I'm guessing aren't good that I wondered if anyone has a clue to?...

This appeared for the 1st time on re-boot a few minutes ago.

This is the result of trying to click 'Device Manager', I'm guessing that's a bad thing.

Any help at all = love from me to you. ;<

Also, am I putting myself at risk to nubs by posting images like these on here?

The first seems to be a net send message.

Start Menu -> Run

type services.msc

Hit enter

Navigate to the Messenger service (This is in no way related to MSN or Windows Messenger) and stop it, right click on it, select properties and from the drop down box labeled 'startup type' select disable.

As for the second problem, it seems something has deleted the device manager part of the management console :/ possible windows repair might fix this.

Backup your drivers, remove any mp3s and games you want then wipe the system. Its fucked beyond repair!
