Isn't it annoying having to explain almost everything in IT is a lie

A 17 inch monitor is really only about 15.6 inches across.

A 250gb HD isn't really 250gb once formatted

A 54g WiFi Card isn't really 5 times faster then the older 11mb/s card but morelike 30% faster, etc

Very true. The worst thing is probably CPU advancements. If you upgrade your W2k box from 350MHz to 3500MHz, it's not going to be 10x faster despite the 350:3500 ratio. It will be more like 2x faster at a maximum.

Well I'm guessing you've just made up those figures.. LOL

But I have an Athlon XP 1800+ and the most intense thing I do is DivX encoding and it runs at about 29 frames per second, I checked some reviews and a Athlon XP 3000+ which is in theory more then 50% faster is only gonna get me about 40 FPS

Geezer, I have ran W2k on 350MHz and 3200MHz so... is that close enuff for ya? The speed difference between the two machines was very little.

btw thats why most companies mention clock speeds but that isnt it all, theres cache and FSB speeds which are more of a bottleneck these days

A 56k modem is really only 33k.

That's because Windows 2000 isn't CPU intensive. For example, I feel no difference between XP on my PIII600 and my Athlon 2600. However, the PIII600 can take up to a minute to render some photoshop effects but the Athlon can do them in 1-4 seconds

And a 56k V90 modem can only upload at 33.6k, and download at 56k (theoretically). A V92 however has 56.6k both ways

I remember my mates used to take the piss outta me because they were all on 56k and I was a luser on 14.4. Then I found out it was 33.3 and I was well chuffed. THEN I brought a 56k modem and joined the elite.

56k theoretical max speed is 8KB/s so your 5KB/s is the reuslt of not having a perfect phone line etc etc
