Evening all.

Just a quick question re. connecting to uni networks in a hall.

The person trying to connect has been told to set their computer to obtain the DNS server address automatically.
In WinXP this is straightforward but how would one go about doing this in Win98?
Is there any way it can be done without having to specify a domain or host?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

W98 and WXP should pick up the LAN connection automatically as long as you don't need to know a DNS. If there is a DNS number, then you'll have to plug it in in to WXP just as much as you would do it on W98.

Even W95 will work the same, except that it will less likely pick up your network card without the aid of the driver disk.

just set your tcp/ip settings on your network adaptor to "automatic" It should then be assigned it's IP address from the dhcp server, aswell as the ip address of dns servers and a gateway server

It takes a few reboots in win98 to get it working as desired, but other than that it's relatively painless
