I'd say they're both the same. Neither have been hard for me, but it'll no doubt be different for different people.

For me it has been harder to learn inline skating. Mainly because I'm more scared of falling. The ice doesn't hurt, and it's easier to stop. :P

Ice is cold though!

but the cold will numb the pain when you fall on your ass for the 7th time in a row compared to the bloody ass you'll have after falling on your ass for the 2nd time on cement :)

you might cut yourself on the iceskating boots blades. :o

Iceskating is far harder I found. The blades are thiner for a start.

I used to be able to figureskate quite well, until I had a bad accident and it put me off for life. Now I don't bother going because (a) I'm unfit and (b) I hang onto the side of the rink for dear life!

i found inline skating a hell of a lot easier than ice skating.

Ice skating BY FAAR!!!

when I was 8 or 9 years old, we went ice skating and when I was starting to get confident on the ice, I face planted it in the ice and blood went everywhere. I didnt need stitches or anything but I had to put vaseline on my lip at night and I'd always stick to my pillow. 11 years later, I still have a fat lip. :(

Ice Skating, defintely -
Haven't went in ages, though the last time I went I could never get the hang of it and everytime I thought I did, I always fell. Always came out with a wet bum coz I spent most of my time falling on me ass... hehe :p

Ice skating, it's harder to balance, and there's much less friction so it's a lot harder to stop, couple that with the balance and you come to the conclusion that you're going to end up on your arse a good few times before you get the hang of it! :p

Worst thing is you're in a cold ice rink, and you get wet on the ice, which means you get freezing!

I found ice skating easier. My roller blading experiences have involved blood though, so I'm biased there. Both good fun though once you get going :)

When I was learning to go roller blading me dad taped pillows round me knees, elbows and me bum.... hehe

Coz the last couple of times I thought I was getting the hang of it, I fractured me wrist and twisted me ankle.

Least on the ice, it numbed the pain when I fell :p

i always thought many card games were just a bastard to learn

this tangent was brought to you by a man who can do neither of the two activities that are listed in the begining post

ice skating by far. i've given up on iceskating but i managed to pick up inline skating alright. think i'll stick to my skateboard though, at least if things go wrong i can bail off of it :p

Ice skatings a piece of piss compared to inline. For one your surface is smoother making it easier to keep your balance. Inline everytime i hit a rut of dip i just wobble.
Saying that though i haven't attempted inline very much but i've been ice skating since i was about 8. So hey i'm biased.

Jinx quite correct there, although there is that well known sport of trying to work out what a blokes thinking which is always pretty fuckin* hard ;)

yeah, ice skating is easier for sure (but also less fun).
on the ice you usually don't get as fast as with inline skates (at least if you use the rental ones you get at the ice-skating lane :D).
also the ice is flat so you won't need to brake and can concentrate on getting the technique down. as well you wont get hurt as much as on the road when you fall (no cars to run you over, or gravel scraping the skin off your arms ).

of course after some time it get's quite boring on the ice... so you might consider playing ice hockey... or just switch to the road and be a little careful at the beginning :)

True but like you said only if you use the rental ones. The joys of hockey skates is the fact you can get some serious speed going :)

Ice skating is easier to learn because for one the ice is normal flat (no bumps or hills to deal with) and there is only a set place for you to go.

But that does make it less fun because your just going round and round in circles.
